Like a thousand minnows scattering under the lake’s cool surface. Like a bottle of fireflies uncorked and set free in the night. Like the little helicopters of a dandelion that has gone to seed, scattered into oblivion by the winds of early morning. Like all of the thoughts that bubble up and then fly away again and again and again, day after day, after day, Gemini reminds us that nothing is permanent and everything changes. Gemini loves nothing more than to wander about dispersing the information they’ve gathered, trading it for all sorts of bits and baubles, gathering more as it goes. Only to release it again.
To love a Gemini is to learn the fine art of loving with an open hand. To close a fist around one of these winged beauties is akin to catching a firefly; you can do it if you are nimble but how can you claim to love something that you’ve trapped? How could someone that you’ve trapped ever really love you? To be in relation with the beings that embody this energy is to learn how to dance in the garden with their mysterious and fascinating light while never needing to own it.
Mercury, the planet of communication, the Messenger, the transgendered one, the transgressor of thresholds, the noble thief, the salesman, the liar, the tale spinner and tail chaser, rules this sign. There is no place that Mercury cannot reach, there is no guise that it cannot fit into, there is no scheme, no heist, no trick of the trade that it cannot perform. Mercurial, this planet and this sign can morph into any identity and is determined to try on as many as possible. This can get confusing for the folks surrounding such a chameleon. You might always have the sense that you aren’t exactly sure what they really mean, really want or really think as the vacillations are endless. Generally so charming that you can hardly stand to look at anything else; moving targets are watchable ones and if Gemini knows how to do anything it’s to lay on their lippy loquaciousness leaving us wrapped in the sticky threads of a riddle while they scamper off to the next tidbit of tastiness. Like any good pollinator, this sign knows the power of frequent flier points. Abundance requires diversity, cross pollination is essential to the survival of any species. Mono cropping is the antithesis of life.
At 11:40 am PST the moon will renew itself by merging momentarily with the sun currently in Gemini. This conjunctio marks the beginning of our monthly cycle, with wish seeds ready to plant we align ourselves with the fertile diversity of the season. We release whatever we have clung to for fear of being empty, lost or without. Gemini says, “It’s time to roam so travel light gurls, bois, girls and boys.” This moon is fueled by a trine to the newly direct Mars in Libra making this urge to activity immediate.
But wait, not so fast my pretties.
The most interesting piece of this astrology is the near, like almost exactly precise, square to Neptune in watery, wonder filled and intoxicated Pisces. Ruh-row. Neptune is the trickiest of tricks, the slipperiest of slips and the funkiest of funks. Neptune is dreamy. Like a sweetly sick, drunken diva standing in the softest of lights so that you cannot see the cracks in the psyche. Fundamental flaws are revealed only after partnering. But it’s too late at that point, you bought the swamp land, baby, now you have to figure out how to extricate yourself from the deal. Neptune deceives via delicate, dream weaving devices. Whatever our lure, Neptunian influences will shape-shift into them so that we scamper off in the direction of our desires. Neptune is also high-octane creativity, psychic sensitivity and idealistic visions that befit a prophet, but when it squares the moon all of these attributes can backfire on us. A square between these wild, wet ones (especially in the highly dualistic air and water mutable signs that they currently occupy: Gemini and Pisces) is a flurry of fearful phobias that have grown strong after feeding on the morsels of our midnight madness. You may in fact feel a spiritual upswing only to be awoken by a dreadful hangover, right-quick.This can be illogical, delusional and distracting energy if we let it have its way with us.
My advice for this new moon is for all of us to be extra aware of all the ways in which we evade doing the real work by effusively shouting from the rooftops that we are so “blessed” or so “tortured”, both of which may be true at times but the tendency with this energy is to either be the victim or the savior, both of which are bullshit. Don’t fall for it. Save yourself and get on with your day.
Mercury and Venus are holding hands throughout this transition. They are both in the precarious position of being at the edge of a sign, in the anoretic degrees of Gemini and Aries respectively. They form a sextile with each other a day before the new moon and they continue the affair as Mercury moves into Cancer and Venus into Taurus the day after the new moon. Two planets changing sign on the same day is worth noting, especially when it sandwiches a new moon. This moon is in Gemini making its host Mercury so we look to that planet for more information. The last degrees of Gemini are linked to many recent catastrophes. The degree has a slippery quality to it that seems to allow for many a covert move leading to situations like September 11th, an event we still aren’t clear on in many ways. However, I’m not predicting disaster. Not at all. I don’t believe in that and I don’t do it. But because Mercury is moving through this degree during this less than straightforward new moon I think it’s worth noting. The other component here is that Mercury is moving very slowly as it winds down to go through another retrograde cycle on June 7th. This is a Murky, Magical, Mysterious Mercury.
Watch the pretty projections up on the Big Screen of your life and maintain an intelligent distance from overly desirous deities. Refrain from serving vain pursuits. You can wail on the kitchen floor but be careful not to buy into your brokeness too much. Watch out for the intoxicating vapors of this air and water combination and try not to get too lost in them. Double check your date book and assume that you have most likely forgotten something.
If anything Gemini wants to collect data but this duo makes that near impossible through traditionally logical ways. Perhaps if this combination can give us anything it’s that knowing comes to us in many forms. Neptune in Pisces teaches us to know in all the ways that sun/moon in Gemini might miss. Neptune teaches us to gather the information that is contained in the vapors, in the ambient sounds, in the images, in the peripheral and in the dreamscape. Neptune in Pisces is psychic or soul knowing; the kind of knowing that we can only gather once we feel truly lost. In a thick fog we cannot rely on our eyesight but are forced inward to rely and strengthen other aspects and talents for gathering information: meditate, pray, listen, dream, vision, create, sing, play and feel your way into this next go-round.
New moon blessings,
Chani
