From December 2, 2019 – December 19, 2020, Jupiter will transit through Capricorn for the first time in 12 years.
The part of our chart that Jupiter is transiting through will receive the blessing of magnification. Jupiter encourages our faith, growth, and resilience by focusing on the bright-side. Jupiter is excited by possibilities, never wanting limits imposed upon it and always seeking open-ended adventures to explore. It knows that making an effort to switch from dreading a situation to finding something – anything – to be excited about in the face of it, can be enough to change our experience entirely.
However, in Capricorn, Jupiter’s natural enthusiasm is somewhat quelled. Confronted with a little more caution than it would naturally choose, Jupiter in Capricorn’s growth and expansion happens only after gaining the necessary experience and developing the required discipline. Jupiter still does its job, but like a delivery person in a snow-storm, it brings its blessings with some delay and much effort.
What we know for sure is that whatever is already present in the area of your life that Jupiter will be impacting will get amplified.
If it’s a lack of structure, Jupiter will make that abundantly clear. If it’s a lack of self-confidence Jupiter might lend you a little pep, but this planet’s main aim will be to bring awareness to what needs to be developed by you. Jupiter adds fertilizer to whatever is present, making this a potent time to be intentional about all that you wish to grow, but more importantly perhaps, the structures needed in order for you to do so.
Jupiter’s change of sign is a major moment for any planets we have in Capricorn and the area of our chart that contains this sign.
But these cliffs are already crowded.
Capricorn has been, and continues to be, home to some of the most defining current astrological sets ups. Pluto (here since 2008), Saturn (here since the end of 2017), the south node and a couple of eclipses (over the past year) are already dominating these slopes.
This is heavy-handed astrology, laden with the responsibility of bringing about long-lasting change that is worthy of the effort it demands. The combination of all these planets in Capricorn makes clear what to purge from our systems and schedules. The fears that have crystallized, calcified, and become obstructions in our path need to be reckoned with. Because Saturn in Capricorn is setting the tone for Jupiter’s transit here, there is nothing evasive about it. There is only the obstacle and the need to overcome it honestly. The secret to success here is discipline, hard-work, and a directed effort.
This stage is set and Jupiter, planet of expansion, wisdom, and optimism must play its part.
Since the last time Jupiter was in Capricorn was 2008, and since Capricorn deals directly with the systems that dictate our material realm, we can assume that Jupiter (with Pluto in Capricorn once more) will exaggerate the aspects of our current economic predicament that are corrupt, structurally unsound, and that don’t actually have the weight or substance to work long-term.
The growth that Jupiter helps us do here might not be as overwhelming as it can tend to be, but it is still steady. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, over the course of the next year, trust that if you are showing up in all the ways you know you can and that you need to, you are getting an immense amount accomplished.
If you have:
- any planets or points in Capricorn, you have most likely already been through the wringer of Saturn and Pluto (or will shortly) and will benefit from Jupiter’s transit. Jupiter’s benevolence is a sharp contrast to the relentless perfectionism that Saturn calls for and the ruthless transformations that Pluto demands. Jupiter brings a much-needed stroke of luck. Or at the very least, a little space in order to remember that all your hard work is working.
- any planets or points in Taurus or Virgo, you will gain the most with the greatest ease from this transit. Jupiter will trine these signs, offering tempered, but solid avenues to grow through. Focus on the opportunities that find their way to you that seem to have the greatest possibility of long-term growth
- any planets or points in Scorpio or Pisces, you will be encouraged to blossom with ease and assistance. Jupiter will sextile these planets stirring excitement and a little optimism, enough to bring about a good time, a little hope, and an opportunity or two.
- any planets or points in Aries, Cancer, and Libra, you will have already been (and will continue to be) tested in extreme ways by means of being in hard aspect to Saturn and Pluto. Adding one from Jupiter will soften the lessons in some cases, or make them more obvious in others. There has been a major emphasis on developing boundaries, structures, and discipline here. If you have built it, they will come thanks to Jupiter.
