It takes a lot to shift us. Lifetimes. Generations. Time. After time. We struggle for freedom. We struggle for autonomy. We struggle to find our way towards liberation.
We wrestle with ourselves. We wrestle with societal expectations. We wrestle with how to live with integrity in a world that is so extreme, so unjust, so unbalanced and unfair.
We cycle through the same lessons. We cycle through the same cycles. But different. Because we’ve done it before. Here again. Back again. Round infinitum. When will convention give way to common sense?
Or better yet, to compassion?
These are extreme times. Information about the injustices of our time is non-stop. We haven’t really changed. Live-streaming tells us so. Not much has healed. But maybe just enough to make change. Our wounds are exposed. Revealed. Shown to us on repeat. It is impossible not to know.
We all know.
We know. It feels as though we will either breakthrough or break beyond repair. We must keep pushing forward. Keep coming back to ourselves. Digging deeper. Understanding our own pain more acutely. Understanding when outside events match our inside experiences. Understanding the archetypal experiences that we are living out in our personal lives. Understanding what threatens us, what gets us riled up, what makes us reach for our weapons instead of our wisdom. Understanding how none of us are ever really that far from being the worst rendition of ourselves. Neither are we far from being the best.
We are both.
At all times. Always. We are as extreme as the times we live in. To forget this is to be in danger of going unconscious to the violence within us. To forget this is to go unconscious to the pain we are capable of reproducing. To forget this is to forget a part of ourselves. An important part. A part that, if used consciously, can create long-lasting and permanent positive change.
Tuesday’s full moon lands at 3:56 PM PT at 27+ degrees of the cardinal earth sign, Capricorn. It sits in a close square to Uranus in Aries, in a sextile to Mars in Scorpio and a trine to Jupiter in Virgo. The moon transmits light. It transmits the energy of the other planets. It is the translator of the cosmos for the earth. The planets that the full moon speaks to are very important. They influence the ways in which the full moon effects us.
This full moon’s most extreme transmission is perhaps from Uranus in Aries. The planet least like the moon itself, Uranus breaks things. Shatters them. Shakes them. Destabilizes them. Awakens us to the possibilities of living beyond the bounds of convention, tradition and duties that keep us down. Uranus in Aries is a personal revolution, one that can go very wrong if unrelated to the collective good.
The full moon’s trine from Mars in Scorpio is also an extreme kind of signature. Mars in Scorpio speaks to the intense emotional reserves that we all carry. Most often, emotions are our motivations. To be unrelated to them and their power makes it all the more easy to use them in destructive ways instead of for our constructive, collective healing.
The full moon in Capricorn highlights this sign’s talents and tests. Capricorn is steadfast, hard-working, goal-orientated and relentlessly responsible. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. Saturn is the planet of bounds, borders, barriers, constraints and confinements. Saturn inhibits. Traps. Withholds. Saturn rules. Saturn loves rules. Makes rules. Abides by them. Tests us by giving us rules that work against us to see if we will find the authority within ourselves to stand up and make our own rules. Saturn is the Lord of Time. Keeping watch. Keeping score. None of us can outrun our responsibilities. They lay in wait for us always. They’ve got all the time in the world to do so.
Saturn is currently in Sagittarius, the sign of the explorer, the sign of the many philosophies, religions and cultures that make up our human family. Saturn in Sagittarius has been revealing the fears we have of the “other” and the walls and borders that we wish to place between one another. Saturn is showing us the hostility that arises when we choose to believe that our separation will keep us safe. Our separation only creates more injustice. Our separation only breeds more hostility and violence.
We can use the light of this full moon to see how better to aim our efforts towards our collective liberation. Capricorn shows up for the job. This is ours to do. We can achieve great things on our own but we can achieve the impossible together, or at least with the well-being of each other in mind.
It’s time.
Full moon blessings,
