Mercury enters Aries
Friday, April 21st

Venus in Pisces squares Saturn in Sagittarius, both at 27°
Venus has stationed direct, but the retrogrades are far from complete. This week begins with a stabilizing trine between the sun and Saturn (currently retrograde and sitting at 27° of Sagittarius for the month of April), offering a moment of recalibration before the week continues on with its curriculum of reflection.
As the sun saunters into the sultry realms of Taurus, the pace shifts from the rapidity of Aries to the un-rushable rhythm of the bull. Taurus is here to experience the pleasures of slow living. Taurus is here to teach us the meaning of sensual pleasure. Taurus is here to build life one brick of intention after another. Solidly. Ploddingly. Surely.
As the sun moves forward into Taurus, Mercury moves backwards out of it. For a moment on Wednesday, Mercury’s day, they come together at 0° of the fixed, earth sign, with Mercury nestled in between the sun and earth. This is Mercury’s inferior conjunction, the conjunction that it makes with the sun while it is retrograde. This is the heart of Mercury’s retrograde cycle. The midpoint. The still point. The marker of being halfway done. The marker of having half yet to do. Mercury’s inferior conjunction can lend us a moment of clarity, as Mercury is momentarily lent the brilliance of the the sun, the Divine Mind. This is a day to use for our internal work. This is a day where truths may reveal themselves, insights might flood our thoughts, and inspiration can lend us a stable and supportive, life-raft of hope.
Once the awakening is complete, Mercury slips back into the fires of Aries to finish up its retrograde cycle. Meanwhile, Pluto, deity of the underworld, stations retrograde. Pluto’s station retrograde happens every year and lasts almost half of the year, so this is not an unusual event. However, it comes at a time loaded with underworld journeys and serves to deepen the week’s tone.
As the weekend begins, yet another planet changes signs. Mars ingresses into Gemini for the first time since May 2015. This signals a shift in desires, energy, action and effort. Mars in Gemini slays with its articulate wit. Sometimes incredibly insensitive, Mars in Gemini can offend multiple people for multiple reasons without even trying. We must be careful of the damage done with our metaphorical tongues, as words often hurt us. Mars in Gemini can be helpful with getting us to take action, but it can often take on too many actions at once. This air sign loves to be on the go, but movement isn’t always progress.
One interesting aside is that, at this point, Mercury is in Mars’s sign and Mars is in Mercury’s. This is called a reception. This makes things more interesting. This makes things less straightforward for Mars. A slip of the tongue can land us in very murky waters.
Friday, the day of Venus, brings with it the second and last square between Venus and Saturn this month. The squares between these two have hugged Venus’s station direct. The squares between these two let us know that our way of relating to one another has deep and long-lasting consequences. To be meager with our truth, withholding of our authenticity or greedy with disingenuity is to cheat ourselves of honest intimacy. There can be no lie between us if there is to be any truth among us.

Wednesday offers you a moment of clarity about your finances. It offers you a truth about how to navigate around a financial issue. It offers you an answer to a matter pertaining to your worth.
It might be time to witness all that you have to cultivate a good livelihood with. It might be time to water the ground that has the most fertile of potentials. It might be time to view an issue through a different lens than you are used to.
It might be time for an unparalleled acceptance of what is, what is not and what must be done at this point. The more you understand what it is you are afraid of losing, the less you are likely to hold onto what holds you back.
Daily life and routines get busier. The pace picks up. The exchanges multiply. Life might have you moving around multiple ideas, conversations or neighborhoods for the next while. It might have you reconsidering how you confront a topic or conversation. It might have you learning ways in which to dodge what is not wise to tackle head on. Life might present you with many an issue to ward off. Pick your battles wisely. No need to burn out fighting off the trolls that only want to tire you out.

Wednesday offers you a rare moment of insight into yourself. It offers you a unique window of opportunity to work with in regards to your self-perception. It offers you a moment of reflection that you will want to sit with.
Don’t be afraid to sit with yourself. Don’t be afraid of being clear about what you need. Don’t be afraid of being honest about the impact of issues that arise in your community or with your friends. Or with both. This week is poignant for you both in terms of your identity and your place amongst your people. Understanding your needs will help you to do better by those that need you. Understanding your desires for connection with help you to give yourself more of what you crave. Understanding what you have hit your limit with will help you to make the decisions that can help cultivate long-term growth.
This is a moment where life may still feel hemmed in, pulled back or withholding. Remember that great contractions are necessary in any birth process. If life feels a little limiting right now, remember that a great expansion is sure to follow it. Life may just be helping you to rid yourself of excessive connections to what can’t support your inevitable unfolding. Keep giving away what you no longer need. Keep making room for all that is already here, but that might just need a little more access to sun, water and good soil to flourish.

As Mars moves into your sign, this week asks you to inhabit the ways of the warrior. It asks you to make your move. It asks you to feel the potential of being as decisive as possible.
Pick a direction. Stick to it. Stay with it. Study what it is like to go through the ups and downs and ins and outs of doubt with it. Study what it is like to move through the fear into the resolution of it. Study what it is like to partner your energy with what you find to be motivating and invigorating.
Choose what you are willing to fight for. For yourself. For your career. For your life right now. Choose what you are willing to wrestle with. Choose what you are willing to hunt no matter the habitat you’ll need to survive in.
Tune into your survival instincts. So that you know what to scare away in order to thrive. So that you know what to defend in order to stay alive. So that you know that it is OK to bear your teeth when real threat reveals itself.
But a word to the wise: if we have lived through traumatic events, often what scares us is, in actuality, barely a threat while what is actually a danger slips under our radar. Sometimes what we were taught was acceptable turns out to be the most heinous of atrocities done against us. Our job is to discern the difference between when we are defending what needs protecting and when we are protecting what should never have been defended.

We can never underestimate the power of our unconscious reactions to life. Deep in this hidden aspect of self lies all the aspects of self we wish weren’t a part of us. Deep in this hidden aspect of self lies all the socially unacceptable aspects of self we don’t want anyone to ever know about. Deep in this hidden aspect of self lies our alter-ego and our ulterior motivations.
While our ego wants to pretend that we are prim and proper, or wild and unafraid of life, the unconscious holds the other side of self. Whatever image we project, perfect or profane, has a twin, and that twin can and will reveal itself at the most inexcusable of times.
Being human is a messy and fucked up endeavor. Being a human is near impossible if we take ourselves too seriously. Being a human is made vastly more palatable when we cultivate an incredibly generous sense of humor. Especially about ourselves.
As Mars moves into your 12th house of hidden matters you might sense a deeper connection to your own underworld twin. As Mercury and the sun conjunct in Taurus on Wednesday, stay open to the insights from friends, allies and community members. As Mercury retrogrades back into the sign that Mars rules, on Thursday, you might start to notice some of the missteps you tend to make in your professional life.
Remember that Mercury retrograde reveals what isn’t working. It isn’t trying to make your life miserable. It is trying to straighten out your misconceptions so that you can course correct where applicable. Pay close attention to the unconscious patterns of self-sabotage that occur here. The planets are teaming up to bring you exquisitely timed information. The more open to it that you are, the more willing to admit when you are imperfect, cowardly, greedy or envious, the more effortless it is to redirect that energy into creative works, your own healing and a deeper understanding of the human condition we are all suffering and triumphing through.

This is not the week to let it go. This is not the week to brush it off. This is not the week to pretend that it doesn’t effect you. This is the week to rise to it. This is the week to see that you are not beneath it. This is the week to witness yourself as valuable enough to engage with it.
Whatever the “it” might be, if it’s preventing your peace from prevailing, it must be addressed.
You’ll do yourself and your partners no good if you forfeit the right to work through the issues that cause you pain. You’ll do your career no service if you aren’t able to lay down the boundaries that you need for your work to flourish. You’ll do your companions of all kinds a disservice if you are too afraid to tell them what is cramping your style.
Be brave enough to work out the worst of your issues with yourself, so that you can bring the best of your problem solving skills to all your unions. Friends. Career. Lovers. Life. Each relationship informs your ability to serve the next and also lets you know what you need from each in order to feel appreciated and accompanied.

This week belabors the point that either you have been trying to make in your relationships or that your relationship has been trying to make to you. Or both. Whatever frustrations, limitations or on-going relationship issues have been demanding your attention are asking for a resolution and no half-baked truth will do.
Only the most honest of motives will get you past the gates. Only sincere self reflection from all parties involved will add up to a proper initiation. Only deeper truths will connect you to the healing powers that lie beneath the surface of pleasantries. This is your time to take your commitment to your own healing and growth seriously. Any relationship issues that are surfacing are doing so to help you do so.
As Mars moves into the area of your chart that deals with career, you will also feel the need to pick up the pace to suit the situation. However, because this is a time of multiple retrogrades, both coming and going, the movement won’t be altogether straightforward. Be conscious of picking too many directions to wrestle with at once. Be conscious of the lessons that you are still working on in regards to what you have to give and what you can no longer let yourself part with. Be conscious of moving out of boredom vs. moving to make progress.

You’ll want to move. Venture out. Escape the hum-drum of life and the grind of daily living. You’ll need to give yourself some sort of information, exploration or experience that will lift you out of the ordinary and into the extraordinariness of a spontaneous escapade. This week marks a month and a half of Mars in your 9th house of wide open spaces. You need room to roam. You need deep conversations that nurture your nature. You need to find ways to experience yourself through different landscapes and paradigms.
But this week wants you to finish up some work first.
With Venus completing its last square to Saturn, your ruling planet has you situated in a tight spot. Pretending that you aren’t contending with weighty work won’t make it easy. Ignoring where you are won’t lead to anything but a piling up of unconscious fears. Denying your duty will only make it multiply in volume.
Get to it so you can get on with it.
At this point if you have done what you have needed to do, if you have been responsible to what you are responsible for, and if you have put in place the boundaries that your work life, your health and your spirit need, this week should bring a satisfying sense of closure. However, if you’ve been putting off what is yours to take on, this week won’t let you rest. No matter the grand holiday planned.

There is a clarity, an insight, a kernel of wisdom available to you this week. It comes through your partners. It comes through your relationships. It comes through your desire to make yourself vulnerable with those that have proven to be valuable confidants.
Listen to the folks that you have chosen to surround yourself with.
There is a definition. A final moment of recognition. A resolution to be made about the lessons that you have learned in love. And war. And every moment in between. Lately the astrology has been trying to drive home lessons about having integrity with your creative energy. It’s been asking you to witness what you attract in and what you let stick around. It’s been letting you know that who is attracted to you isn’t always up to you, but who you give your sweetness to is all on you. Try not to be too hard on yourself while learning the last segment of these lessons but do be honest about what you have learned from them when the data comes in. The clearer you get about who, when and where you want to give your goodness to, the clearer you’ll be able to put yourself in line with the great energy of reciprocity.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
You might start to detect a forcefulness in your dealings with others. An unwillingness to back down. A clarity around the kind of action that you need to take in your most important relationships.
Feel your potency. Without fueling unnecessary arguments. Without trowing shade on what already lives with a lack of light. Without needing to prove your power to any person, place or thing. You know what you are capable of. This is the time to pour your energy into what you can do, not into what doesn’t respect, understand or acknowledge you.
Feed your insights. Especially those that you have about the nature of how you may have been bullied. Especially those that you have about the nature of how you may have been provoked. Especially those that you have about the nature of how you react to being pushed beyond your limit. This is a time to set limits with those that don’t respect your thresholds and don’t know how to show you the gentle strength of respect.
Force nothing on yourself. Watch what naturally reveals itself as a yes. Watch for what is clearly a no. Watch for all the ways in which you were taught to deny what you know and refuse to go along with the lie any longer. This week marks the end of a story that you have been living out. An ancient tale about yourself that no longer needs to be told. An ancient tale about yourself that has no moral and no meaning for your current situation. An ancient tale that is rusty, weathered and worn. Do away with these old duds. You deserve nothing less than what reflects your best.

As your duties at work increase, so too does your energy to get more accomplished. The next 6 weeks sees you achieving great tasks as long as you take great care not to overwhelm your body with undo effort. Stress and strain can produce work, but the quality of it will be in question.
As Venus finishes up her last square to Saturn, you get to see the process that you have made with your day-to-day life. This week the emphasis stays on the importance of getting through your days with task list in hand. As you check off each significant assignment, the feeling of wrap-up and relief will follow. We need closure, even with the smallest of details, in order to feel free enough to dedicate ourselves to the next million tasks at hand. Afford yourself that much. Give yourself the gift of crossing things off your list and getting things off your chest. There may be an aspect of your accomplishments that has to do with writing, teaching or telling your story. Give yourself the dignity of being able to do so. Release the sentiments that have gotten in the way of your ability to be clear. With others, with yourself, but mostly with your life. The clearer your conscience, the clearer your ability to access your target.

This week brings with it a resounding clarity about whatever it is that you have been working on in regards to your home, your family or your foundations. It’s a subject to sink into. It’s a time to appreciate any place that you have built for yourself. It’s an excuse to linger a little longer in the moments where you feel safe, settled or satiated with what you have.
This week brings with it a closure to the financial issues that Venus retrograde has revealed to you. These may have been much less about cold, hard cash and much more about the lack of warmth that you extend to yourself when it comes to issues of self-worth and self-support.
Knowing what it is we do have access to is more important than focusing on what we aren’t afforded. Being able to develop the skills necessary to serve the raw materials that we have been handed is one of the greatest resources we can acquire. Creativity is a far greater currency than any amount of man-made money.
Your astrology is about to bring you a rush of creative energy that will want to be used. Let yourself explore the works of different thinkers, artist and activists that did astounding things without worrying about what they were not. Let yourself explore hidden creative talents that you have tucked away, far from view. Let yourself experience some non-productive, guilt-free and glorious joy.

Reality can be painful, but it’s the only place to make long-lasting change. Reality is perceived from the place that we sit, leaving open multiple ways to view the aspects of life that we struggle through. If we can learn to move around a topic, viewing it from multiple perspectives, we can have a greater awareness of how to work through it. Reality can be all consuming, leaving us in need of necessary adventures and escapades.
Don’t evaporate to escape the intensity of this moment. There is a resolution on the way and if you miss it you’ll have to make it on your own at some point. With less support and more struggle. Putting things off only gives them more time to gain girth.
Welcome the clarity that comes. Welcome the definitions that truth provides. Welcome the finality of whatever has run its course. Whatever we are scared of has the greatest power over us as long as we cling to its opposite. Allow this week’s offering to wash up on your shore and instead of being disappointed when they weren’t what you thought, try cultivating a sense of gratitude for the precision that they bring. This truth might be sharp, but it is the kind of arrow that will pierce your heart, leaving you more awake to what you can do with what you have got.
