Passage through the Underworld
This year, and into 2022, Venus wanders through the bedrock, gulleys, and ravines of Capricorn. As in Inanna’s passage into the Underworld, we may be asked to shed an adornment at each gate.
Before its retrograde, Venus squares Chiron on November 15th, encouraging us to dig, excavate, and scrape away in the dark until we tap the real pay-streak: the gold in our relationships that never devalues, and the immaterial riches of the soul, more priceless yet.
Venus’ trine to Uranus on November 18th/19th reaffirms the breakthroughs of striking out from the crowd (or more mundane distractions) to undertake this private and often lonely journey. We realize that our individuality itself is at stake, as we sift through the sediment of the ego, and everything that’s petrified through unconscious fears.
Inner Transformation and Personal Power
On December 11th Venus conjoins Pluto, and we find ourselves in the throne room of Hades himself, just a few days before Venus officially stations retrograde on December 19th. Before we can take this process deeper, we will have to be willing to burn our desires, relationships, and value systems down to their essence. What remains will be in service of our personal power and evolution — the rest will float away as the lightest ash.
As Venus turns this corner and begins its ascent, a final sextile to Neptune on January 5th will bring an inrush of inspiration, or even a creative outlet for processing everything that was stripped away. On January 29th, Venus stations direct, and whatever turned to ash in the earth’s core hearth needn’t haunt us again. We are changed, irrevocably, and thank Goddess for that.
This is the same terrain of Capricorn that Venus retrograded through at the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.
