Tuesday, January 31st
Mercury in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries, both at 21°
Thursday, February 2nd
Mercury in Capricorn square Jupiter in Libra, both at 23°
Friday, February 3rd
Venus enters Aries
Sunday, February 5th
Jupiter stations retrograde at 23° of Libra
As Mercury ignites the riotous, unpredictable and intense T-square between Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto, we get a glimpse into its meaning and its impact on 2017. On Sunday, January 29th, Mercury and Pluto formed a conjunction which coincided with a massive uprising across America. Thousands of protestors across the US have and are voicing their opposition to the illegal detainment and refusal of entry to migrants, refugees, and green-card holders from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Mercury will continue along a path of upheaval. It will square both Uranus and Jupiter opening up all manner of upsetting, unnerving, exciting and insightful conversations. Living in this age of shocking executive order after shocking executive order it would be unwise to blame Mercury’s movements for the day’s current state of emergency, and we can’t assume it will pass as Mercury moves towards less chaotic areas of the sky. However, the little movements of the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars have a way of highlighting the bigger, brighter and more obvious patterns of the moment.
Jupiter, planet of growth and goodness stations retrograde on Sunday. Its station retrograde means that a part of the aforementioned T-square, the opposition between Jupiter and Uranus, will come into exact alignment (occurring on March 2nd). If Jupiter grows things, Uranus reinvents them. The opposition between these two brings an unpredictable expansion. An unreliable exaggeration. An unforeseen swelling.
But before that Venus will enter Aries on Friday. As the planet of connection immerses itself in the sign of independence, we’ll all experience this unique paradox. Venus is in its detriment in Aries. As the current ruler of Jupiter, planet of law, justice and reigning beliefs, Venus’s move into this less stable situation, as well as Jupiter’s station retrograde, will most likely plunge us into even deeper moral crises.
Venus in Aries is independent. Bold. Restless. Warrior-like in its queendom. It’s not always good at getting along with everyone or creating conditions for bonding. This is the sign that the Queen of the Heaven will station retrograde in come March 4th. We are now in the shadow phase of that retrograde cycle (beginning January 30th) meaning that this time is a foreshadowing of the themes we will return to come late winter and spring. Venus retrogrades occur in the same sign once every 8 years. Think back to spring of 2009 for hints about what a Venus retrograde in Aries might feel like for you personally.
We are rolling into some very dicey, creative and unpredictable astrology in the coming months. The kind that takes great flexibility and focus to move through. The kind that will burn away any false notions of security and scarcity. We may be in a cesspool of sewage, politically speaking, but if our collective resistance becomes the unpredictable growth that overtakes the unpredictable establishment, we might be on to something.
All power to the people!

As Venus enters your sign this week you’ll have ample amounts of intoxicating attributes at your service.
Use them wisely.
Venus will station retrograde in Aries later this winter and will therefore be spending an extended period of time in your (sun or rising) sign. Two months to be exact. That being said, the late winter and spring season will have you reviewing, reflecting on and renewing your relationship to yourself, to your significant others and to the art of living your life.
Invite Venus in.
Adore fierce beauty. In yourself and others. Admire, appreciate and applaud the femmes in your life that teach you how to claim your sweetness and your strength. Devote yourself to understanding the independence that you need to develop in order to enter into sturdy, interdependent unions. Think about what you learned in the spring of 2009 in terms of your relationships and your identity.
Venus isn’t the only significator of relationship issues arising this week, however. As Jupiter stations retrograde in your 7th house of committed partnerships, you are being asked to work with whatever is most pressing there. What have your significant others been teaching you? What recent relationships are helping you to review the dynamics and the needs of your heart?
Take these insights into your workplace. As your career gets a little unpredictable press or you have to have a couple of difficult conversations this week, remember that they are all an opportunity to be in relationship with yourself. Stay present to the fact that all you need to do is be a good partner to whatever the moment is producing. The rest has a way of working itself out.
*Please join me for an in-depth look into the placement of the asteroid goddesses, Vesta and Juno in your chart. This week we will begin by learning about Vesta, goddess of dedication and focus. As well as learning about the astrological significance of Vesta in our chart, we will do ritual practices to call our energy back in and pull focus so that we can be more direct, clear and on target in all aspects of our lives.
This week your planetary ruler, Venus, slips into a part of your chart that deals with what goes unseen. This week begins a 2-month process of developing a relationship with a part of yourself that you might not give enough credit to.
We all are from and go back to a great mysterious source of energy. Yet, most of us have a difficult time remembering to make space to honor that mystery in our daily life. Part of your homework over the next 2 months will be to trust the process of your life.
For a sign that is committed to securing a safe route around life, that kind of trust can be all kinds of radical.
Trust what your relationships need. Some will need space. Some will need hibernation. Some will need to be released. Remind yourself that there is something greater at work than your agenda. Release expectations of working something out, having closure or finding answers immediately. There could very well be relationship issues that are hidden from your understanding for a little while. You’ll have to wait for feedback from some folks while others will be able to provide you with unexpected clarity.
This week also pulls focus on your work projects and future plans, especially as they relate to teaching, publishing and traveling. You’ll be expected to roll with some rockiness and make the best out of situations that might test your patience and last nerve. Stay with the facts that you can count on and move through the more complex communications slowly. You are in the process of reviewing some of the growth you have made in regards to your work life and your schedule and it’s important not to leap to any conclusions right now about what actions to take. Gather information and keep it handy.

This week Venus, planet of relationships, enters the area of your chart that puts you in contact with friends, groups and gatherings. Stationing retrograde here in March, Venus will spend an extended amount of time in this area of your chart. Therefore, you can be sure that a lot of your learning will need to be done through your friendships, group involvements and socially-minded endeavors.
While Venus teaches us about connection, love and forming important unions, the planet also teaches us about our experiences of the opposite: betrayal, rejection and envy. Venus puts us into contact with the entire spectrum of relationship experiences, from feelings of contentment to incompetence.
Relating to others is one of the great sacred landscapes of our healing. All kinds of issues arise and all kinds of opportunities present themselves when we make sustained contact with another. Right now all group activities, activist endeavors and friendships are of utmost importance. Find the ones that feel like the best fit for you. They might not always be a place of ease, but they are sure to bring many important revelations.
Any excess social anxiety can be used as fuel for creative projects. Creative projects can be vehicles that help you to experience pleasure. Pleasure is a healing balm that can help you to gain a greater perspective on life and relationships. Make space for some in your life.
This week also brings your ruling planet, Mercury into an important alignment with Uranus and Jupiter. Happening in your 8th house of collaborative efforts, this transit might highlight an important truth or revelation about how you are sharing your energy and whom you are sharing it with. Pay attention to what breaks free. Pay attention to what needs to be addressed in shared spaces. Pay attention to your debts and see if you can settle some while still having enough for yourself.

Venus adds extra swagger to your career situation this week. The Queen of the heavens, lover of all things luscious and planet of relationship will be spending the next 2 months in your tenth house of reputation and #goals. Venus is spending an extended period of time here because it will station retrograde at the beginning of March.
This extended stay will lead to an ongoing exploration of this area of your life. Your relationship to your career, the relationships that make it move and the creativity that it cries out for all become central themes from late winter to early spring. What you review here will be of long-lasting importance.
What you review here might also be looping back into something that you did or something that you went through back in the spring of 2009, the last time Venus went retrograde through this part of your chart. What advancements have you made in the last 8 years in your relationship to your career?
What core issues, issues from childhood, issues that you work through in your family inform the work that you do? There is an important correlation between the two areas of life that this week will point to. Keep digging into what makes you be able to expand in both areas. We can’t heal without experiencing our pain, without witnessing it fully, but we can’t live there either. We need to drop down to understand the bedrock of our life so that when we eventually rise back up we are supported by the knowledge of the strength it takes to have gotten this far in our journey.

The beginning of the week carries on with the themes of confronting and working through communication issues at work and health issues that might be impeding your ability to do the work at hand. Sometimes the small hiccups highlight the larger frustrations that lie underneath the niceties and acceptability politics we need to play along with in order to survive. While the patterns in the sky don’t recommend that you burn all bridges (or burn out trying to get everything done), they certainly ask you to take account of the ones that don’t lead anywhere. Proceed with caution and self-preservation strategies in tact if things get tense or overwhelming and do take the lessons to heart as they are part of the enduring themes of 2017.
Later in the week, Venus enters your 9th house of travel, teaching, learning, and long-term journeys. It will spend the next two months in this part of your chart asking you to look at your relationship to your plans, your dreams and your part in making them a reality.
This astrology might have you feeling restless, ready to begin a new journey or have you on one already. The next couple of months will have you testing out new ingredients to add into your life’s brew. This astrology has you weighing the difference between striking out on your own path and keeping things more even keel and harmonious. Much of your job in the coming months will be to see what the middle ground might be. How can you get your personal needs met and keep balanced growth growing? A certain amount of harmony is important for sustained progress, but so are the journeys that invite us to see life through new lenses, disrupting our world view and enlightening our perspective. Think about what you are willing to risk and what you are not willing to put in jeopardy.

This week Venus enters your 8th house, a part of your chart that has to do with the give and take that occurs in your collaborations. Since Venus is a planet of love and relating, you’ll be getting better acquainted with your values here and with the values of your collaborators. Since Venus will be stationing retrograde here in the beginning of March, the 8th house becomes an important area of your life.
The 8th house is a place where we join our energy with the energy of another. It’s the house that teaches us that we are better able to do our work and live our lives when we find the partners that potentiate us. The partners that have what we don’t. The partners that bring what we didn’t know we needed. It’s the house that teaches us to let go of what isn’t important and to embrace what is.
A Venus retrograde cycle is one of initiation. One that leaves us revealed in its process. One that leaves our relationship issues on display. One that helps us heal so that our hearts can feel a little freer and love with a little more abandon.
This week you journey into a part of your life that can offer up the perfect antidote to isolation, but it will require that you get better acquainted with what you need to release in order to occupy your collaborations with a greater honesty and presence.

As well as learning about the astrological significance of Vesta in our chart, we will do ritual practices to call our energy back in and pull focus so that we can be more direct, clear and on target in all aspects of our lives.
This week you and your partners begin an initiation process. It’s a process of initiation that may expose the many layers of armor that you have had to uphold around your heart. It’s a process of initiation that will call on you to pay closer attention to the dynamics that you have in all your partnerships. It’s a process of initiation that comes through others, but it ultimately helps you understand yourself more.
Without a deep connection to ourselves it is near impossible to understand why we have the emotional reactions that we do. Without a deep connection to ourselves it’s near impossible to be known by another. Without a deep connection to ourselves we cannot have a deep connection with anyone else. One relationship should inform the other.
All of life is an experience of knowing ourselves. Through trial. Through error. Through oppositions. Through the process of coming together. Through the process of separating out the helpful polarities with the too-stressful tensions.
This week brings you information about your patterns of growth. What spaces in your life you have been able to expand into. What spaces you have been able to fill out. What shifts this fullness has allowed you to make. Some growth may need to be reviewed. Some growth may need to be curbed because it’s not quite the direction you wish to follow. Some growth may be in need of an extra dose of your attention. Redirect your expansion so that it is congruous with your highest intentions. Not all growth is good for the soul, but the kind that is will keep you glowing and growing in all good directions for a long time to come.

This week wants you to take a look at your work projects. It wants you to notice your relationship to them as well as your relationship to the folks that you work with. As Venus begins its extended journey through this part of your chart, you’ll have multiple opportunities to explore the situation over the next couple of months. Multiple opportunities to seek ways to positively impact your days through working on what is of most value to you. Many opportunities to promote what brings you health and a sense of well-being, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Many habits to review and rethink in order to stay on point, pursuing positive growth and growing along positive lines.
This week continues the themes that last week began around communication. What have you been learning in terms of the way you need to say what you need to say? What are you learning about how to protect yourself in difficult conversations while still being open to learning what you can? What are you coming to understand about your inner strength and your inner wisdom in the face of greater world chaos and situations that seem both alarming and hard to keep up with? The more you are anchored in your resolve to stay centered in your self, helping yourself see the bigger picture and your place in it, the more use you’ll be to the world.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
This week your ruling planet, Jupiter, stations retrograde asking you to review and realign yourself with the growth that you most need to experience. One of Jupiter’s blessings is that the planet gives us options. Sometimes in overwhelming amounts. Jupiter has been working to expand the part of your life that puts you in contact with people. Friends. Communities. Colleagues. Allies. Fellow dreamers, schemers and patrons for your creations.
Jupiter’s station retrograde this week wants you to take note of the progress made and see if some of it needs to be more tailored to fit your more pressing agenda items. Who do you have time for and whom do you not need to give so much time to? It’s just as important for you to be able to be in touch as it is to decipher what relationships need to grow and which are good as they are.
Sustainable growth depends on your ability to be discerning.
So does your financial situation. There could be something mildly disturbing to your resources at the moment. See what you can do to be creative with what you’ve got without being irresponsibly risky.
As Venus enters Aries and your 5th house of creativity late in the week, you get introduced to an especially important assignment of 2017. Venus’s extended stay in this area of your chart asks you to use your creative power to make things of great importance this year. They may not be well received by everyone. Good thing you aren’t trying to impress the masses. They may test some of the relationships you’ve been able to establish thus far. Good thing you have a host of different folks to collaborate with. They will hopefully push you to understand your capacity to be a channel for radical love and can demonstrate just how important it is to commit to partnering with what needs your ingenious energy the most.

Stay with what is raw. Without having to make sense of it. Without judging it. Without making it mean anything in particular. Be present to what has been most recently exposed. Uncovered. Revealed. It has new, tender skin. It needs your attentive protection. It needs your patience and acceptance.
It will teach you a tremendous amount if you can give it that. It will wreak all kinds of havoc if not.
What you communicate, how you communicate it, what is communicated back to you and how you deal with the responses are all pressing themes that refuse to release you, at least during the beginning of the week. Experiment with the themes of holding and releasing. Hold the responses that need holding until they have been given the appropriate amount of time to mature, then release them without expectation of getting anything specific in return. See how you can creatively call people into the conversations that you feel passionate about having without being divisive or evasive.
As Venus enters your 4th house of home, family, foundations and inner world late in the week, you are being asked to do some investigation into the nature of your relationships here. Venus is spending an unusually long time in this area of your chart which will emphasize the importance of connecting with your core motivations and values. Moves, changes and shifting needs in this area of your life may have you surveying your options and breaking from traditionally enticing options. Make sure that whatever changes are made to the foundation of your life are able to support the sustainable growth of your career and your professional pursuits. One feeds the other.

This week, Venus, planet of love and relationship enters the part of your chart that governs your daily life, schedule and communications. These topics are all steadily increasing in your life. As you are asked to join forces with more and more folks, as you are asked to add more and more to your days, it’s important to remember that this is a part of your life that you will be reviewing and restructuring in the coming months.
By March, Venus will station retrograde here and you’ll be asked to honor the quality of your connections over the quantity of them. You’ll be asked to look at what short and long-term goals help you to feel a sense of connectedness to your life’s purpose and which ones don’t. You’ll learn about which connections are actually aligned with your purpose and which just appear to be.
This week offers you a meditation and a reflection on the progress that you have made in terms of the goals that you have pursued recently. You’ve grown into new goals or had new growth with life-long goals recently. This week asks you to reflect on all that has taught you, all that has asked of you and all that has made you step up and into what is most important to you.

This week Venus moves into your 2nd house of finances, resources and the wells of creative ingenuity that you draw from in order to support yourself.
Supporting ourselves is the most intelligent investment that we can make. Make it. Make it again. Then make it again.
Over the next 2 months you’ll be asked to renew your relationship to your resources. You’ll be asked to review the ways in which you value your virtues. You’ll be asked to look at what kind of support you give to your talents. Do you pay them attention every day? Do you spend time honing your skills? Do you allow yourself creative license to explore them? Experiment with them? Take the risks needed to fully harness them?
As Venus eventually stations retrograde here in early March you’ll be asked to keep exploring your ability to develop your resources. What growth has occurred through important partnerships this year? What new folks have come into your life as a result? What new areas of collaboration have you had to grow yourself into? What conversations, friendships and community events have recently pushed you to define your stance and therefore declare your allegiances? Has that clarity brought relief or a reality check that you were’t quite ready for?
You might normally want to make all things good for all people involved, but more and more you’ll come to see that part of accessing what you have to offer means that you need to sit with greater amounts of tension between you and others without having to fix it or smooth it over superficially.
