2020 may have been the beginning of a new decade, but it was always about endings. Marked with many an astrologogical “this is going to hurt” signature, the planetary emphasis on Capricorn this year repeated the themes of boundaries, restrictions, denial, restraints, responsibilities, and downturns. These motifs were our destiny to deal with. The growth we made was only ever going to come out of the limitations forced upon us.
Worn out and ready for a refresh, we are about to experience one of the most important astrological reboots we’ll ever live though. On December 21st, right after the solstice, Jupiter and Saturn will make a conjunction. Known as The Great Conjunction, this will be the closest observable Jupiter-Saturn conjunction since medieval times, and there will not be another that is visually like it until 2080.
Beyond the cosmic theater of it all, this specific Jupiter/Saturn conjunction is happening in a new element (the air sign of Aquarius) for the first time in 200 years, and thus, it initiates us into a new 200-year era.
Occurring on the solstice, which in and of itself is already considered a fresh start and a day to set intentions that will hopefully grow alongside the returning light and warmth of the sun, the Great Conjunction feels like a blessing in a year devoid of them.
Occurring at 0° of Aquarius, the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction initiates us into the fixed air sign’s outlook. A visionary who is able to be emotionally detached enough to think through each step of an issue, Aquarius observes what others are too entangled within to understand objectively.
This air sign focuses its energy on unpacking the ins and outs of a system in order to be able to think outside of it. Innovation is its aim, but the structures that tradition offers are always investigated and respected if reasonable, sensible, and sound. At 0° of Aquarius, both Saturn and Jupiter are extra potent in their ability to make a lasting impression through our dedicated and consistent efforts. This is the perfect time to set out on a new venture that you wish to be in long-term – mark the moment with an important declaration or set in stone your mission statement.
Still in its place of rulership, Saturn has concentrated powers in Aquarius. Here until March 2023, we will have some time to understand what that means in our world and in our lives. Jupiter, no longer in detriment, does a bit better in Aquarius (here until May of 2021, and then from July – December 2021) than it did in Capricorn, and both have strength in Aquarius in a traditional dignity system called triplicities. At 0° of Aquarius, Jupiter and Saturn are also in what is called the first decan of this sign (the first 10°). About this decan, in his book 36 Faces, Austin Coppock writes that, “we gather what we can from outside the norm. The frontier of any reality system is hard—there is reason it extends no further. Though exile from the core always comes with hardships, there are material, intellectual and spiritual riches on the frontier, but to seek them requires a break with the known.”
Years like 2020 have us straddling a gaping chasm, one that asks us to bear witness to what is decaying while at the same time tending to what is emerging. Our systems are archaic and long-overdue a reconstruction. In true Aquarius fashion, we must leave enough space between our personal attachments and the needs of the collective in order for the most innovative ideas to emerge. Aquarius is the antithesis of Leo, it decenters the ego. 2021 asks us to think beyond ourselves, beyond the herd mentality, beyond the binaries we’ve been forced into. We must face our fears of exile in order to access the wisdom of the healer/teacher/sage/witch that lives on the outskirts of the village—this is the exact opposite orientation of those than have all the privileges in society but still claim they are being victimized when asked to consider the group’s needs. That is a false exile, a vain attempt, and a deeply destructive stance to take when we look at the problems we face as a planet.
To become the leaders that the world needs, the Great Conjunction calls us to venture towards the edges, to new ways of working, living, learning, and building with one another. There is no way to sugar coat the extreme travesty this year piled upon the entire globe, but if there is anything that we can take away from it, it’s that we know for sure what is essential.
With that wisdom, let us begin again.

Aries & Aries Rising
The Great Conjunction encourages your most social self to come forth—not necessarily for free-wheeling good times, but to dedicate yourself to the collective movements that you most want to be a part of. Take note of the events you are wanting to attend, facilitate, and help usher into the world. There is a need, an urgency almost, to take on the roles and responsibilities that will help you understand your place amongst your peers and to understand the power of collective action.
Whatever you helped facilitate in this realm between March and July of 2020, when Saturn made a brief appearance here was a foreshadowing of what you are being called on to do over the next two years. Your luck over the course of 2021 will come through the people that you meet, the connections that you establish, and the ideas that you exchange with others, thanks to Jupiter in Aquarius.
For you, it’s currently all about how you serve your audiences, and how you serve as an audience member. You are held to a higher standard by those you present to and you are part of a collective moment that expects more from those that have the stage. Embracing our community power is how we shift culture, and that is exactly what you are being asked to be a part of now.
Taurus & Taurus Rising
Marrying the potency of The Great Conjunction with the power of where it is taking place in your chart (the 10th house of career) is a little awe-inducing. With the onset of this new cycle, you are bound to come up against the desire to make something of substance out of your career, within your industry, and as a way to set certain standards in your profession.
This is not about overnight success.
What is done in a flash leaves just as fast. Over the course of the next couple of years, you will lay a foundation for some of the most important contributions of your career, but you will need to do so steadily and bit by bit—checking the sturdiness of your structures and their ability to manage abundance as you go.
For insight into what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your career from March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius. What came to consciousness then wants to find its way into your concrete action plans now. Whatever the journey, it has to be intellectually rigorous, stimulating, and has to help elevate the conversation of whatever it is you are dedicated to discussing on the public stage. The more discernment you bring, the more generous the final offerings will be. Just remember not to turn that critical eye inward towards your tender parts in the process.

Gemini & Gemini Rising
The Great Conjunction sees you setting out on a monumental learning and healing journey. Delving into the wisdom traditions of the past, the sci-fi sagas of the future, or the graduate programs that beckon you towards them, this trip is mind-bending in its ability to get you to question everything you think you know. Doing so is the only way you can come to trust the structures that philosophically hold you through the ups and downs of life. Doing so is the only way to show respect for the principles that you believe in.
Unearned faith in a system makes fools of us all. Buying into unchallenged truisms makes us mediocre participants in life’s relay races. If you want to live a life of meaning, you have to be a disciplined student of its sometimes baffling ways of appearing.
For insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the desire to learn that got stirred within you between March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.
Your dedication is required, your interest is piqued, and you need to sink your chops into the educational pursuits that can withstand the test of time. To get you going, the spirits of curiosity might send books falling off the shelves in front of you, make podcasts pop up on your screen at just the right time, and align your days with conversations that spark an interest in something that’s been hidden from you or on the very back burner of your awareness. Take note and follow the breadcrumbs these fairies leave for you.

Cancer & Cancer Rising
The Great Conjunction makes a mark on your collaborations. Those that you receive blessings from become more prominent over the next couple of years, and while the set up renders you incapable of controlling the situation, it does help you embrace the power of vulnerability.
In order to receive, we have to learn how to be open to the offering. Not uncritically, however. This period of time asks you to be even more aware of the partnerships that you engage in. It requires you to be even more discerning than you have been up until this point. It asks you to get as clear as possible on why you choose the people that you do. Codependent habits will start to wear on your ability to get anything done and thank gods. The more you can root out the behaviours that keep you from your own clarity, certainty and power, the better. This is not about people pleasing to get your needs met – it’s about being so upfront about your needs that you only receive the right candidates.
However, you have the gift and the curse of being all about bonding. Being direct isn’t at all your strong suit, but it will have to become one of them lest you waste your time waiting on exchanges from those who can’t, won’t, or don’t give you what you need.
For insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your collaborations between March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.

Leo & Leo Rising
It’s time to tie the knot, metaphorically speaking. You are on the rise and the partnerships that are able to rise with you need to show you their commitment. The Great Conjunction says so.
The next two years test the fabric of your unions to make sure they have what it takes going forward. But this timeframe doesn’t only examine the agreement that those you are involved with have made to you, it also tests your dedication to those agreements. The only way to understand the power of your connections and the potential of what can be made within them is to thoroughly dissect what has brought you, and what keeps you, together. Otherwise why would you willingly sacrifice the necessary offerings to the altars of your unions?
Those that you partner with now need to be interested in growing and evolving the concepts that you are most curious about, and they must be willing to put in the work that such growth requires.

Virgo & Virgo Rising
Work isn’t everything (newsflash), but the projects that you produce over the next couple of years are more than likely going to mark your professional landscape in ways that you’ll be able to reference for years to come. Your ideas, innovations, and insights need a home in your professional life; make this the year that you build them one. The Great Conjunction is promising many satisfying results if you do.
As Jupiter and Saturn come together, they are also making clear the need for rituals that help your mind, body, and spirit find a way to rejuvenate amidst all the responsibilities you are taking on and roles you are expanding into.
Because this is a moment where the wear and tear of your productivity could add up, you want to take equal measures to get ahead of the game by setting in stone some routines that are easy to do and that help you complete what Emily and Amelia Nagoski call your stress cycle.
Few can appreciate the wisdom of a system as much as you. If you use this next year to be as fascinated with your physical systems as you are your productivity patterns, you’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of both output and input.

Libra & Libra Rising
The Great Conjunction initiates you into a new creative journey. Through the modalities that you study, teach, immerse yourself in and dedicate yourself to, you will be transformed. Now is the moment to seek serious good times and to be disciplined about making space for joy, creative self-expression, and the good fortune that awaits when you give yourself the right mix of permission and restriction.
As Saturn takes the next two years to shape up your relationship to this part of your life, it asks you to study the correlation between your time and your drive. If you want to build it, you have to make choices about what else you’ll have to put on pause. Manifesting your dreams and ideas is as much about conscious choice as it is about letting your imagination run wild.
These next two years want you to become a time management expert. Cultivating respect for the hours that your day is made up of, as well as the quality of energy that waxes and wanes throughout them, helps you to know what to do, when and for how long.
For insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your creative life and your relationships with children from March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.
As Jupiter spends the next year in Aquarius (save for May, June, and July), it does the opposite of Saturn. It asks you to expand into the spaces and places that fear may have withheld from you. It asks you to venture towards radical self-expression. It asks you to learn about your love languages and to use them often. It asks you to study the many ways pleasure can be found in your days. It’s an opportunity to learn about the power of giving yourself permission to love and be liberated by enjoying what life has to offer.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
What’s underground is your greatest resource right now. The personas, the accessories, and the well-placed applications of lipgloss and highlighter are all important but not where the riches are. Your origin stories and the wisdom that they possess draw you to them. In order to get to their goldmines, you’ll have to draw some of your energy inward, toward your roots. Excavation adventures await. Researching expeditions beckon. Fountainheads overflow with tales of your woe and wonder.
This unearthing is meant to help you stabilize in ways you’ve not done before. To better understand what this might mean for you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your excavations of home and family life between March and July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.
Since Jupiter is also a part of this equation, we know that the meaning of this moment is not only to be gleaned from the gravity of this mission, but also from the expansiveness that a solid home base creates. As you build, consider what you are creating space for. As you say no to some family formations or hearth placements, consider what you want to say yes to. As you build better boundaries and are able to interrupt the unhelpful patterns from your past, you are more able to understand what it is you are including as part of your bedrock. Healing is to be found in what you say yes and no to.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
The Great Conjunction wants you to mic check. One, two, twenty times a day, you will be asked for your ideas, opinions, thoughts, essays, articles, and advice on the topics that you have been steadily becoming an expert on.
Get precise.
The more time you dedicate to perfecting your ability to succinctly say it, the better. Your message is deep, and you don’t want to water it down, but there are ways to make sure snippets cut to the core of the matter so that they can travel far and wide.
Since Saturn already spent some time here earlier this year, look back to March and July of 2020, for insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of your communications, educational pursuits, written works, and keynotes of all kinds.
This is the beginning of Jupiter’s once-every-twelve-years foray into Aquarius, and it compliments Saturn by bringing a measured optimism to the pervasive scepticism that the ringed planet is so famous for. The mark that you make, over the next year especially, will be because of your ability to hold the problem and the solution with equal respect and attention. You know, and will prove, that without understanding the nature, structure, and reason for the difficulty with unflinching honesty, there is no way to reach the answers. But when we do, they are more than apparent – they are eager for our attention, action, and application.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
The vice grip that Saturn has had on your life is loosening. As the Great Conjunction occurs, so too does your graduation; you’ve made it through 2 ½ years of roadblocks of ridiculousness, self-doubt swamps, and cosmic criticism. It’s not that you didn’t grow a lot, it’s just that the growth demanded tremendous levels of self-restraint and discipline. It’s not that it hasn’t all been worth it, but it is nice to know that this specific chapter is coming to a close.
Now, onto the next.
As Saturn and Jupiter move into your 2nd house of assets, resources, livelihood and how you make it, you are being asked to clear up your relationship to all of the above. What level of respect do you show your labor? What aspect of your talents and resources do you value and how do you tangibly do so? It’s all well and good to post memes about believing in ourselves, but it’s the action of showing ourselves how serious we are about not taking our contributions for granted that really helps our lives take shape.
Over the next two years, the ways in which you work with your ideas and allow your most innovative insights and offerings to shape your livelihood make all the difference. Use December 21st, and the days around it, to mindmap the concepts, hypotheses, and ideas that you have about your financial life. The more concretely you go about this business, the better. It’s not that you have to know exactly what you want to create or make into your next career move; it’s that you want to signal to your unconscious that you take your ideas seriously and you are ready to manifest them if they can withstand the tests of time.
For more insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your financial life and livelihood from March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
Your cosmic checkmate has arrived, but so too has your fairy godmother. A curious duo. The Great Conjunction occurring in your sign signals a myriad of fresh starts and phenomenal forays into the land of commitment. What you say yes to needs to be worth it.
This is no time to spend with people you aren’t thrilled to be in the company of. And this is no time to invest in projects that don’t demand your best while also offering you the benefits that only come with effort. Wherever you have agency in your life needs to be your point of concentration, worship, and reverence because it is your portal to self-possession.
In Aquarius, Saturn asks you to take your time more seriously. The lordess of restrictions wants to remind you that until you take measure of your life, how you’ve lived it, and how much you might possibly have left to work with, you aren’t connected to the power and potential of it. It’s near impossible to know what to invest yourself in if you aren’t clear on how much of your wattage it will require and if, at the end of the day, it’s worth it.
For insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that occurred in your life from March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.
Here for a brief stint between December 2020 to May 2021 and then again from July to December 2021, Jupiter brings blessings that flow through you and into the rest of your life. Encouraging you to expand your understanding of what your ideas can do when presented in a clear and concise manner, Jupiter wants to help you get attention for your most innovative insights and mostly for your foresight. What you have access to are the blueprints of where we need to go and how we might get there. When it comes to sharing them, don’t hold back, but do make sure to take the time needed to gather your intel and color code your keys.

Pisces & Pisces Rising
The Great Conjunction calls you inward, to the studios, creative incubators, and backrooms of your life. What you have put off is ready to be taken on; what you weren’t able to address earlier in your life is now accessible and demanding your attention. This includes sorrows that need tending to, ghosts that need to be set free, psychological closets whose contents are ready to be emptied, organized and made conscious, and creative projects that need all your time, energy and focus.
You’ll have to put your FOMO in a tightly sealed container from time to time. Even though we are already living in quarantine, it’s amazing how distractions and time leaks take away from our ability to commune with what we’ve got going on in the workshops of our lives.
Boundaries are key to keeping the tender sprouts of new life protected, encouraged, and able to grow.
Saturn’s time in Aquarius reminds you that the right containers are the key to your success. Whether that is traditional therapy, dedication to the spiritual rituals that help you hold yourself through the healing process, or creative practices that take you on deep detours into yourself, commitment is a must.
For insight as to what these next couple of years are asking of you, look back to the shifts that you experienced in these realms of life from March – July of 2020, the first foray of Saturn’s trip through Aquarius.
Because Jupiter will make an appearance in Pisces from May – July of 2021, and again from December 2021 – May 2022, you have the good fortune of getting major props while down in the dungeons of self-discovery. Jupiter’s blessings when in Pisces are mighty. No matter the introspective work that is ahead of you, this boon is a beacon of incredible prosperity to come.
