Desert creature though the scorpion may be, Scorpio season isn’t known for its Sun rituals. Instead, we bum a light from the Scorpio Sun to kindle our jack-o-lanterns, our hearth fires, our altar votives.
It’s a season where the membrane is said to thin between this plane and the next, where we’re closer than usual to our beloved dead and ancestors. If you’re grieving someone or something, this season may inspire you to work with that mourning. To materialize it through acts of ritual and offering.
Fixed Sign Turbulence
Scorpio is a fixed sign, and because a lot of the astrological turbulence is focused on fixed signs right now, this season will involve some lurches, starting on October 30th, when the Sun squares Saturn. The Sun is our light, our yearning to radiate and express ourselves. This square to Saturn feels a bit like a frowny judge critiquing your voice or dance moves.
The Sun’s opposition to Uranus on November 4th takes a sledge hammer to such flak and glass ceilings. Note that your experience of these transits could be subtle too. These are exactly the same waves we’ve been surfing since last January, and you’ve learned a thing or two about staying on top of the crest.
Turn the Tide
The Sun’s trine to Neptune on November 11th and square to Jupiter on November 15th offer different vibes: expansive rather than cramped, mind warping and widening rather than inhibiting. If you work in a creative field, the Saturn-delivered drought will give way to lusher pastures. This brain and heart irrigation will be especially welcome as we barrel into eclipse season.
November 19th brings the first eclipse in Taurus since 2014 and the first one near the North Node since 2004. Taurus has already been the site of significant shake-ups, courtesy of Uranus, our solar system’s rabble rouser. The eclipse on November 19th occurs at the end of the sign, within 1 degree of the fixed star Algol. The so-called “demon star” has been feared the world over, but its story in the Greco-Roman tradition features a deeper, gnarlier narrative around the rage of being betrayed.
This is a story we will be navigating throughout 2022, but this first eclipse in November serves as a prequel, hinting at the matters that will be usurped, transmuted, and crystallized over the coming year.

Aries & Aries Rising
Maybe you learn a song the way your great grandparent would have chanted it, maybe you pour them a glass of their favorite libation, maybe you start a conversation, which could involve words, or it could involve wearing their earrings or fragrance, or beckoning them into your dreams.
There’s no correct way to process loss or sadness. There’s no correct way to turn your grief into praise. Like a seedling absorbing nutrients from compost: it’s automatic.
The Sun in Scorpio also spills light on the growth (and growing pains) you’ve been apprenticing in your social circles this year. A collaboration could feel prickly between October 30th and November 4th, and one of the sticking patches may involve money or energy exchanges.
With eclipse season on the horizon, a lot will change (including today’s small-time snafus). This is a moment best spent in observation. Dream expansively, but don’t hurry your preparations. The readiness is all and not yet.

Taurus & Taurus Rising
This has been a year of crunchy expansion. Like a tortoise shattering its carapace, you’re straining out of your shell. Loudly. Taurus is one of the four fixed signs, which means you’ve been collecting some of the shrapnel that’s spewed between Saturn and Uranus this year.
That shrapnel has predominantly landed between you and your career. This has been a period of testing your mettle professionally, astonishing your higher-ups (and yourself) with what you can accomplish.
Now, as the Sun lights the jack-o-lanterns of Scorpio season, your relationships enter the fray, especially between October 30th and November 4th. The Sun is a light bringer, of course, and this lucidity will help you assess what’s unfolding between you and a close other (such as a best friend, beloved, or business partner).
Scorpio wants to scud along the bottom of the lake. To meet the change that’s shaping you and your partnerships right now, you’ll have to probe deeper. No one will be placated by surface-level appeasements — least of all you. This is a time to get honest and real. Only then can you embark on the metamorphosis that true intimacy entails.

Gemini & Gemini Rising
Starting October 22nd, the Sun decants its light over your habits and routines. It can be enlivening to peel back those layers of automation: to see where spiders have spun silk between your cogs. Through this ritual of yanking back the shroud, you assess which habits you actually choose to live by, and which ones you want to unlearn.
In astrology, the house we associate with physical ailments is also the place where we toil. This Scorpio Season, you’re called to investigate how the two interweave. How do your work habits and expectations impact you physically? Where does stress live in your body? How does it let you know?
By gathering the morse code of your heart beats, your nerves as they rustle, or the needling heat of a back ache, you transfigure these inconveniences into valuable data: into information you can pivot from. By heeding the complaints of your body, you leave an offering at the steps of your most precious temple — you.

Cancer & Cancer Rising
As the Sun molts into Scorpio, you’re called to pull out your inky latex catsuit / bat wings and brandish the kookiest skeletons from your closet. And yet, as your friends fill your goblet with more frankenpunch, you may find yourself feeling a little less than festive.
With Saturn squaring your funhouse all year, the mandate to “enjoy yourself” or “relax” may feel like a one-size-fits-all that doesn’t fit you. Sort of like when you’re mourning a breakup or other loss, and the radiant day outside feels like an insult to injury. (Or conversely: when your mood is affirmed by an electrical storm.)
This season at least, cobwebs are a socially acceptable hairpiece, and your scowl can be part of your costume. Now Scorpio season won’t be all doom and dried roses — far from it — but your fun may be more inward at the moment, especially around October 30th.
The Scorpio Sun nudges you to examine your pleasure rituals: to lower your diving bell into the parts of yourself that don’t normally get seen or indulged. Then to create here. To express yourself from this deep.

Leo & Leo Rising
While yes, it’s that time of year where you can feel almost “subtle” in your vegan leather pantsuit, Scorpio season hits a deeper nerve for you. Scorpio corresponds to your inner hearth fire and the ones you gather there.
In many cultures, this is a season where the shroud between this world and the next is said to thin, where we fall into step with our ancestors, or at least: they don’t feel so far from home.
This season could also bring up any ghosts you’ve been collecting around intimacy or commitment, especially around October 30th.
While the Scorpio Sun illuminates tensions at home, or the family knots you need to detangle, there’s also an opportunity to trace the threads of your own becoming, including the loops you’ve had no control over. Maybe this work looks like honest dialogue, or maybe the ritual is subtler, more private.
Scorpio is the midnight of your chart, and you don’t need anyone physically here to feel witnessed. If you have photos or trinkets from your relatives, you might place them on your altar now. You might leave a morsel of chocolate or cup of tea and visit this space to speak your truths, or simply say hello.
If nothing else, this could be a time where you reorient yourself around your root system, where you finger the tendrils of your belonging and say, “this is me.” Or, “this isn’t me.” Or, “I choose the path of my becoming. Thank you. I can take it from here.”

Virgo & Virgo Rising
As the Sun smears into Scorpio, you find yourself, again, side-mouthing all the subtle wisecracks people do or don’t hear. One quality people sometimes miss about Virgo: you’re witty AF. But your humor isn’t loud or domineering, so it can go unnoticed (which probably doesn’t bother you at all).
Your way with language is scorpion-tongued and probing. Not content with surface-level information, you tend to lift all the stones, just to note what’s writhing there. While this aquanaut-approach to learning serves you in your studies and work, not everyone wants to hear the truth as you word it — without gloss or coats of honey.
Over the past year, you’ve been negotiating what to say and what to let others learn for themselves. On November 19th, eclipse season whistles through the part of your chart that relates to learning, teaching, and sharing your wisdom. If you know you’re right, who cares if everyone knows it too?
Some lessons are yours to teach. Others are best left to observe quietly, without judgment or “I told you.” Smugness will only derail your path to the rawest and realest truth.

Libra & Libra Rising
If Scorpio season is a time where we brush closer to our beloved dead, for you, that process involves the stories, memories, and lifetimes ensouled in your dearest trinkets.
Your belongings are more than adornments for you, your parent’s jean jacket (from when denim was actually counter-culture), your hand-me-down tarot cards, bowed from use, your lava-lamps or backyard flamingos or rave “kandi”: they’re portals to another life, another time, another heart.
As the first eclipse in Taurus arrives on November 19th, this Scorpio season foreshadows a time in the near future when you’ll have to focus more on clearing than safeguarding. You’ll need to make room for more memories, more love, more entangled plots.
Whether you realize it or not, you’ve been refining these processes all year. As the terrain you share with other people continues to shift its topography, you’ll be asked to choose what to take with you beyond the next gate. What storied props do you integrate into your sequel? What do you leave in the sidewalk free bin to be cherished by someone else?

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
Finally: it’s the season where you can wear your spooks on your sleeve, because everyone is adorned this way, with their freak and fantasy on display.
Even if you’re not so into Halloween, you might recognize something in this ritual: of defanging the nightmare through the art of embodying it. Of slipping out of your ego-self and into your Beetlejuice to understand these cobwebbed sides of you, which we tend to hide in daylight.
This Scorpio Season, the daylight comes to your cobwebs. And beneath the cobwebs, the masks, the vampire teeth: to you. Whatever personal projects you’re brooding, whatever inner or ambient ghouls you’re wooing, whatever secret selves you’re letting out of the crypt: the Sun’s shining with you now.
Yet watch out for thorns amidst the pumpkin patch, especially between October 30th and November 4th, when you’ll be balancing the need for stability with someone’s yearning to roam free (possibly your own).
While the terrain is certain to rearrange itself, these changes could be necessary to encourage everyone to peel off their Freddy Krueger masks to face each other in their truest, rawest forms. Ultimately, these are the only unions you’re invested in: the authentic ones.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
When the Sun enters Scorpio on October 22nd, it flickers lights in the haunted backroom of your chart. This is the chamber where your poltergeists roam, whispering crooked advice into your dreams or stunting your self-belief with deflating comments.
Like any halloween corn maze, the toilet-paper swaddled mummies look ridiculous in daylight. At night, though? Those ghouls possess a different power. Good thing the Sun is first and foremost a light bringer. While it can be daunting to look your ghosts straight on, you have the power to do so now. That’s the only way to vanquish them.
The bogeyman is a faceless catchall of what we’re most afraid of. Its power depends on us being too afraid to look. With eclipse season beginning on November 19th, you don’t have that luxury anymore: of not looking. Instead, you enter the catacombs.
If this sounds daunting, remember that everything here is part of you. If you have the power to make your bogey-creatures fearsome, you can defang them too.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
Scorpio season tends to lure the social moth out of you: the part of you that finds pleasure in sharing goblets of witch’s brew with your cohort, or constructing “dracula’s dentures” or deviled egg eyeballs for your monster mash. Even if Halloween isn’t your bag, there’s something about this time of year that baits you down from the mountain.
Scorpio is the social corner of your chart, and when the Sun lights the lanterns in this area, you crave kinship with your friends and allies. You’re not one to build superficial friendships either. You don’t let someone onto your crag until you’ve connected with them in a deep and honest way.
If Scorpio is the merry clubhouse of your chart, it’s also a place where you store vision boards for how the world could be kinder and more just. These plans have felt harder to grip onto lately, partly because of the dust kicked up between Saturn and Uranus. As we enter another eclipse season on November 19th, you can expect the plots to mutate again.
But the Scorpio Sun slants its light on what you most want to attain or retain from all this: the friends that laugh with you through thick and snafus, the pragmatic dreams you continue to hang your hat on, and the steely confidence that we can find our way home from all this.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
It’s that time of year where it’s socially acceptable to arrive at work in your bed linen — as long as you cut two holes for your eyes. With the Sun pouring chalices of swamp water at the top of your chart, you receive the flattering glow of all your work place jack-o-lanterns.
Yes, your efforts will get noticed, but not just because you’ve shown up with bat wings. You’ll also find that your creative beetlejuice starts flowing more readily as well, like you have something to express (and a singular way to do so).
With Saturn in Aquarius, you’ve been tiptoeing along a scythe edge of growth this year. There’s a chance you’re carrying heavier burdens than usual, that you’re the one charged with playing the soothsaying realist, while everyone else averts their gaze.
This tension gets strobe-lit during Scorpio season, especially between October 30th and November 4th, but this is all part of your initiation. This is how a tree earns its growth rings: through the simple, defiant miracle of weathering time.

Pisces & Pisces Rising
As the Sun sinks into Scorpio, it flickers the tealights on your altar, manifests new grimoires on your shelves, and cinches the knot between you and your chosen mysteries.
Scorpio is the webbed and hallowed place where you do your learning and growing: through Goddess-given labors (sorting a thousand grains of barley, gathering wool from golden sheep, filching a pot of Persephone’s face cream … the usual), as well as your own rites of learning and merging — but always, into the deep.
Over the past year, these trials have withstood their share of lumps and sinkholes. You’ll notice their echoes this Scorpio season, especially between October 30th and November 4th. But what if your personal alchemy requires these thresholds?
They say, “the poison is in the dose,” and right now you’re learning how to transfigure venom into nectar, shadow into shades of gold.
