2020 is full of age-defining astrology. This is in large part due to the fact that the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn (happening on December 21st, 2020) closes one astrological era and begins another.
Known as the Great Conjunction, Jupiter and Saturn come together every 20 years. However, for 200 years at a time, they do so in one element. Since the 1800s, the Great Conjunction has been happening in earth signs. Earth signs deal in the material realm. Planting, reaping, sowing, taking, stealing, colonizing, setting up shop on top of lives, communities, and histories that have been trampled, refused dignity, and wrecked for the supposed prosperity of others is in large part how we’ve seen this cycle lived out. In the last 200 years, we’ve witnessed an unprecedented amount of human consumption of the earth’s resources. Thanks to the institutionalization of white-supremacist, patriarchal, colonialist capitalism that set the stage for this age, excessive waste has been celebrated up until now.
Coming together in Aquarius at the end of 2020, Jupiter and Saturn begin a new cycle in a new element. This is a once-in-200-year opportunity to make necessary adjustments needed to begin the long process of shifting course. In the fixed, air sign of Aquarius, we will begin this cycle hopefully through the lens of the Water-Bearer’s humanitarianism. Aquarius is an intellectual, a visionary, thorough in its thought process and unwilling to abide by the laws of the group for the sheer sake of fitting in. Aquarius will buck a system only once it has understood it and thought through the best way to break it.
Aquarius will do away with any ill-conceived rules and restrictions, but never is it a rebel without a cause.
This new cycle will most likely see technology proliferate, communications take new forms, and data, ideas, and information become the new currency. Air signs are never at a loss for words, new ideas to pontificate upon, or people to talk to, but they do lack in warmth, groundedness, and the ability to stay emotionally related. We’ll need to make sure we don’t lose our humanity in favor of our big ideas.
Before we get to the Great Conjunction, however, Jupiter and Saturn spend most of the year in Capricorn. Here the dynamic duo reminds us that incremental task-mastering is where it’s at. We recreate the world by laying one sustainable brick at a time. We change our minds about what is possible one thought, one word, one action at a time. We maneuver around despair by focusing on the little wins, the quality of our connections, and the blessing of second chances after we’ve made a mess of things. We have to live out our potential, our dreams, and our destinies one caring act at a time. Like our life depends on it. Like our future is waiting for it. Like it is what we were born to do. Anything that derails us from this aim doesn’t deserve access to our days, nights, or rituals.
What we do between now and December makes all the difference. Even if every mistake has been made, everything has been broken, and we can’t ever make right what went wrong, we owe it to ourselves and to each other to leave this cycle on a note that affirms our dignity, integrity, and potential.
Let us go onward with copious amounts of care, courage, and commitment to showing up the best we can, in all the ways we can.
Here is a quick rundown of the astrological hotspots of the year, for a more detailed account of the astrology of 2020 and how it impacts your sign, please join me for 2020: The Year Ahead for Your Sign :
Eclipses: We ended 2019 with a solar eclipse in Capricorn and will begin 2020 with a lunar eclipse in Cancer. An emotionally charged exit and entrance that helps to clarify what to focus on for the coming year. Eclipses tend to bring one chapter to a close while another opens.
The first eclipse of the year is a lunar eclipse in Cancer on January 10th. With Uranus stationing direct on the same day, this eclipse asks us to ponder what radical care might look like for ourselves, our families, and our communities. After this eclipse, there is only one more solar eclipse in Cancer (June 21st) and one lunar eclipse in Capricorn (on July 5th) for a long while.
The eclipses are moving on.
Gemini is home to a double-header this year; as Venus retrogrades through it starting in May, the north node joins in on the party. The north node will be bringing an increase of energy and activity in the area of our chart that contains Gemini, an increase of communication in general, and a megaphone for all manner of messages.
How we deliver them will matter.
For the part of our chart that contains Sagittarius, the opposite is true. In May, the south node enters Sagittarius and acts like a cosmic clean-up crew purifying any excess we accumulated over the course of 2019 (thanks to Jupiter).
Again these eclipses will be specifically impacting the parts of your chart that contain Gemini and Sagittarius. Look to the meanings of those houses and any planets you may have in these signs to understand what is coming up for you.
Saturn conjunct Pluto: Occurring on January 12th, a couple of days after the lunar eclipse in Cancer. This transit is for the hard-core. It emphasizes the destructive nature of corporate greed and sounds the alarm on dictators and dementors of all kinds. Whatever shadows you’ve been too timid to address need to be worked with now. Saturn always brings an issue into form. A deadline onto our desks. A reality to check. Pluto is a deep reservoir of power, but in order to access the wealth within its underworlds, we must face the monsters of corruption that lurk in its shadows.
Saturn in Aquarius: Saturn ventures into Aquarius for a small stint before the Grand Conjunction on December 21. From the end of March to the beginning of July, Saturn will test the waters of Aquarius. This is a preview of its upcoming agenda there, something we’ll be up to our necks in come the end of 2020.
Venus and Mars retrograde: Venus retrogrades through Gemini from May 13th – June 25th and Mars retrogrades through Aries from September 9 – November 14. That means by the time we get out of the post retrograde shadow of one, we immediately enter the pre-shadow shadow of the other. Review of relationship dynamics (Venus) and the actions we need to take in order to honor ourselves and each other (Mars) will dominate the year. As Mars and Mercury retrograde through the beginning of November, nothing late in the year looks that easy, simple, or straightforward. Dealing with anger issues, separations, and acts of aggression will dominate mid to late 2020. Mars spends half the year in Aries, one of its home signs, making it exceptionally strong and obvious. These knives are sharp and we must learn to wield them wisely. Vote accordingly.
Jupiter conjunct Pluto: While in Capricorn, Jupiter makes 3 conjunctions to Pluto (one in April, one in June, one in November). This power surge may blow a fuse or two, but can be worked with to make some fairly big moves. Jupiter goes big and never goes home. Pluto’s resources are never-ending. Together they can spark massive appetites, useful when applied to the pursuit of justice, equality, and sustainability, harmful when used for personal gain alone. This is the beginning of a new Jupiter/Pluto cycle.
Jupiter in Aquarius: Jupiter makes one swift move into Aquarius on December 19th, meeting up with Saturn at the solstice and staying there until the end of 2020. Here, Jupiter expands our visions, helps us to think outside the box, and blesses us with the humanitarian visions of The Water-bearer.

Aries & Aries Rising Horoscope for 2020
2020 asks you to embody the mark you wish to make upon the world. In every way. In every bit of attention to detail. In order to do so it’s imperative that you pinpoint the habits that undermine your best intentions. Which of your rituals run counter to what you want to accomplish? Which small adjustments would help to set the stage for you to live out a dream or two this year?
What you do repeatedly in your professional life shapes your contributions to it. What you want to bring into the world can only be done one small action at a time. What you think of your professional self either promotes positive patterning or derails your best efforts. With your 10th House of public life, career, and professional roles loaded with planets and eclipses, you have no choice but to take more responsibility for the shape of it.
But that is the good news.
As the year roles out you get to feel more and more connected to the impact you are having on the world and you get to see the results of your efforts in real time.
From May 13th – June 25th, you will be deepening your awareness of how you relate to your daily life, communications, and routines. This year’s Venus retrograde wants to help to retrieve your energy from the rituals and communication issues that tend to drain you or steer you off course. Even the slightest shift in behavior is enough to change the outcome of your year. Whether that means you are developing better boundaries or learning how to be more direct about your needs and beliefs with certain people, this time period will be offering unrelenting opportunities to clarify your messages.
From September 9th – November 14th, Mars retrogrades through your 1st House of identity, appearance, and persona. Being your ruling planet, its retrograde through your sign has extra significance. Mars will have you reviewing the ways in which the identities you inhabit work for you or against you. Again, your habits are key to aligning yourself with what you most wish to grow into. You have many wonderful tools at your disposal; your persona is one of them, but unless consciously worked with your intention may not align with your impact. This is your time to learn how to wield the tools you’ve been gifted in the most precise and conscientious ways.

Taurus & Taurus Rising Horoscope for 2020
2020 wants you to get serious about your long-term goals. Wanting to achieve something isn’t enough to get you to the finish line. Having a desire won’t determine your success. Inspiration comes and goes and can’t be counted on daily. There has to be something much more tangible put in place in order to bring your dreams into being.
What you habitually do determines what you make out of your life. Little here is fair. One of the only ways to battle the unequal distribution of love, care, and resources is to make it a habit to support yourself. No amount is too small and all investments come with the benefit of compound interest.
Bet all you’ve got on you.
The big picture of your life is where the focus remains for much of the year, but it’s only within reach when you focus on the small daily actions that improve your life bit by bit. This is where you have the most agency. Set yourself up for success by breaking your biggest dream down into bite-size pieces you can chew on each day.
Your ruling planet, Venus, retrogrades from May 13th – June 25th this year. These 40 some days and nights ask you to review your relationship to your talents, assets, and resources. How you spend your hard-earned income comes under inspection, but so too does how you make it. This becomes a time where you are asked to extract the most precious gems from the hard rock they are encased in. It takes effort, but once retrieved your ability to value what you possess increases exponentially.
As Mars retrogrades through the last portion of the year (September 9th – November 14th), you get a chance to review your behind the scenes projects and hidden life. Whatever is gestating in the creative incubators of your life needs extra attention, as does your internal world and well-being. You’ll be drawn inward, where you will find both the wounds of your past and the salve that they need you to apply to them.

Gemini & Gemini Rising Horoscope for 2020
2020 puts a heavy emphasis on the baggage you need to set down. Healing happens in waves and layers. Occurring on its own timeline. Showing up when it’s ready and not a moment sooner.
But only after we’ve taken a million small actions over the course of many moons.
Healing needs to know that we want it. That we are ready and willing to change for it. That we are more invested in our evolution than we are in holding onto the past. The more structures you bring into your life that support your mental, physical, and emotional self the better. This is always true, but it’s irrefutable in 2020.
Spend this year building the structures that make it possible for you to heal and collaborate more easily. Learning how to share what you have while implementing appropriate boundaries is a huge part of your learning and your success.
By May, the north node enters your sign increasing all manner of movement and mayhem in your life. Some years are more active than others. Sometimes more is thrown your way than you bargained for. Many people pray for abundance, but few can actually make use of it when it arrives.
Spend the first part of 2020 preparing for this growth by organizing your life. Get your rain barrels in working order. Get your priorities straight and effectively placed on your to-do list. As Venus retrogrades (May 13th – June 25th) through your sign, it only emphasizes the need for you to be in a deeper relationship with yourself and life. Partnership issues will be pronounced, but the thing to pay attention to is what you choose to prioritize in relationships and why.
Venus isn’t the only one pressing you to clear up relationship dynamics, however. Mars will retrograde from September 9th – November 14th through your 11th House of friends, groups, and communities, causing all kinds of action there. Some of it will inspire change, some will exacerbate the issues that need to be addressed in your circles. With the tendency to separate, this Mars retrograde will help you get specific about who can handle the heat that real relationships need to be able to pass through and who can’t.

Cancer & Cancer Rising Horoscope for 2020
2020 is full of contracts, commitments, and growth spurts that all come via the people you choose to engage in partnership with. You can’t know which relationships will work out and which won’t, but this year makes clear your need to seek out those that have the fortitude to see a situation through.
That includes you.
The more familiar you become with your own intimacy issues the more success will be in your grasp. How you care for everything from your calendar to your greatest-love-of-all relies on your ability to be consistently tending to the details and weeding out the behaviors that fracture the structures of your connections. Like everyone else on this earth, you have an extremely good reason to be defensive, guarded, glib, or dismissive when an interaction tests you, but you don’t have the right to let that stop you from healing the wounds that installed that response in you in the first place. This year encourages you to improve your ability to show up with integrity in the relationships you’ve committed to.
As Venus retrogrades through your 12th House of behind the scenes projects and hidden life (from May 13th – June 25th), you’ll be inclined to focus on the aspects of your world that are far from public view. Your ability to be a productive Wizard of your own Oz makes all the difference in what the world receives from you.
The last half of the year is a defining one in terms of your ability to make your mark on the world. Mars retrogrades through your 10th House of career from September 9th – November 14th. Mars is a planet that brands through heat, leaving a permanent impression upon whatever it touches. Its transit through the most public part of your chart has you investigating your leadership and its impact on those that you’ve committed to working with. Bring the fire, but don’t let it burn down your carefully curated career.

Leo & Leo Rising Horoscope for 2020
It’s how you go about doing what’s hardest this year that counts. It’s the ways in which you can help yourself get through the chores of your life that will make all the difference. It’s your willingness to show up for the daily grind that will get you all the gold medals you could hope for.
2020 is about getting dirty with the nitty-gritty.
It’s a year wherein most of your growth takes place while you’re on the job, at your desk, and in the weeds with the rest of your co-workers, allies, and fellow comrades. Balance your desire for perfection with excessive communication to manage everyone’s expectations. Burnout is always a reality, but even more so in 2020 if you let life have its way with you. In order to not let it be all-pervasive, one of your most important tasks will be to quarantine your time-off and guard it with your life.
Venus’s retrograde (May 13th – June 25th) asks you to review your role within your communities, your covens, and your collectives. Much magic can be made with others when you’re clear about what you can bring and what you can’t or don’t want to offer. It’s a perfect time to gain the courage to be as honest as possible and to allow the lessons you learn through friendships help you deepen your relationship with yourself. Often the family issues that we can’t deal with directly show up in our social life. Take special care to support yourself through the learning curves that come up in groups during this time.
As Mars retrogrades through your 9th House of long-term plans, publishing, education, spiritual experiences, and far off travels, from September 9th – November 14th, you’re life direction is under review. This transit makes you more conscious of your reasons for moving in a certain direction and asks you to make sure you’re oriented towards what brings you a sense of satisfaction.

Virgo & Virgo Rising Horoscope for 2020
Putting the habits in place that help you honor, develop and work with your creativity is on the top of 2020’s priority list. Commit to your process. Refuse to be a drama devotee who needs constant applause. Honing, refining, and manifesting your creative energy takes time, energy, and patience. Learning how to journey through the peaks and valleys of your inspiration will make it clear that you can’t sit around waiting for it to arrive. You can’t count on feeling like creating something, you can only rely on the habit of doing so.
Get to the canvas, the studio, the typewriter, the dance floor, the drawing board, or the mic. Get to the activities that you always say you want to do more of but never get around to. Even if its only for 5 minutes at a time. Make it sustainable. Make it attainable. Make it something you are actually motivated to do.
Take your creative energy seriously enough to show up for it when it’s hard and when it’s heavenly.
With both the north node entering and Venus retrograding through, your 10th House of career beginning in May, there is both a surge in desire to accomplish big things as well as a need to review your relationship to your professional life. The desire for beauty, connection, and getting your needs met in your business life and relationships will be prominent. Working around interpersonal dynamics will occupy much of May and June, but not without big rewards for a job well done.
With Mars spending half the year in your 8th house of shared resources (Mars will be retrograde there from September 9th – November 14th), it’s safe to assume that you’ll be working through many a lesson that asks you to clarify what you need in your collaborations and how to advocate for yourself within them. Red flags here must be heeded.

Libra & Libra Rising Horoscope for 2020
Between the yearning to set out in search of new adventures, and the need to ground, get rooted, and deal with the reality of your home and family life, 2020 sends you some mixed messages.
The truth is that you need both.
The places you get to journey towards and the home you return to are of equal importance. How you work through issues that come up regarding your past, your parents, and caregivers all help to retell your origin stories with greater honesty and clarity. Resolving, reviewing, and healing some aspect of the issue also helps you feel freer to enjoy the wide-open spaces of your life. There is no hiding from the core issues that have always been there, but there is something new that they want to teach you.
What you had no power over was never your fault.
Whatever happened or didn’t happen, whatever missteps and mayhem you survived wants to be worked out in some small or large way.
As your ruling planet, Venus retrogrades through your 9th House of long-term plans (May 13th – June 25th), you’ll be reviewing where you’re going and how you are planning to get there. The most valuable aspect of any journey is what it helps you understand about yourself. Meaning is what you’ll be wanting to connect with, seek out, and risk your comfort for.
As Mars retrogrades through your 7th House of committed relationships from September 9th – November 14th, you’ll be reevaluating the quality of your connections and the agreements that keep you together. Love is a verb and during this time you and your partners will both be challenged to demonstrate how you feel through your actions so that trust can flourish between you. Your job will be to get to know your needs so that you can articulate exactly what is missing or what is making you uneasy.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising Horoscope for 2020
The best way to prepare for a year of triumphs and tales to tell is to become a master of your time. Freeing yourself from being at the whim of your calendar means that you’ll need to become unafraid of refusing dates that you know are derailing dead ends. No matter how cute the date, if it isn’t with your destiny, you don’t have the time to spare. Getting into the driver’s seat of your days means refusing to be a casualty of the chaos monsters that roam the halls, hide in your desk drawers, and stalk your inbox outside of business hours. Doing so demands that you develop the kind of habits that help you stay above the fray. Know which hours are for what, which days are best for doing acb and which are for xyz, and delegate what you no longer have time to tend to.
Your growth depends on it.
As Venus retrogrades (May 13th – June 25th) through your 8th House of shared finances, your collaborations get reviewed. What you are responsible for and what others need to be able to carry on their own comes into focus. Contracts are rethought, renewed, or released. Some part of your heart needs to be retrieved from an old relationship, an investment that’s expired, or a deal gone wrong. Whatever it is, it will make itself known, loud and clear. All you need to do is to receive the message.
Your ruling planet, Mars, retrogrades late in the year. From September 9th – November 14th, the Red One urges you to review your work schedules, routines, rituals, and habits. Keep the ones that help your fires burning nicely and cut the ones that have you more inflamed than necessary. 2020 needs us to stay as calm, grounded, and centered as possible. Take that attitude to work with you and you’ll rack up reward after bonus after employee of the month plaques just by being the one who refuses to lose your cool in a hot tub of feelings.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising Horoscope for 2020
Partnerships proliferate in 2020. What you want to accomplish needs an accomplice, and by the looks of it many come your way. Learning who to go steady with and who to keep in the friend zone is essential in romance, and life-saving in regards to your business deals. By May, you’ll be noticing that some of your agreements need updates if you want to be able to build the kind of future prosperity possible between you.
Money matters hold your attention all year long.
More than your attention; your resources, assets, bank balances, and talents want you to put your best habits before the ones that keep poking holes in your pockets. There’s nothing to waste this year. Every single effort wants to be accounted for. Compound interest grows when you go all-in. The more you show up, take stock, and put your resources to work in the best ways possible, the more you’ll be able to make, give, and receive.
As Mars spends the second half of the year transiting (and retrograding) through your 5th House of creative energy, projects, and pursuits you are given the chance to get much more familiar with your process. How you channel this raw power makes all the difference. Focus on the habits that help sharpen your creative skills and you’ll be well-equipped to carve out a masterpiece, dismiss your impact and you’ll end up causing a scene for all the wrong reasons.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising Horoscope for 2020
Giving will always get you there. Generosity cures most aches and pains. Cultivating a mindset of abundance will help you celebrate even the smallest of victories.
2020 isn’t holding back and you are best served not to either.
With Jupiter roaming through Capricorn, 2020 asks you to open up. Mindful expansion is encouraged. Trying to push something one way or another is not. Small actions that add up to something that you feel proud of is a top priority.
Accomplishments only have meaning when they are tied to something that supports your inner growth and the well-being of your communities.
Winning in a silo isn’t much to write home about.
Make sure that your big moves are connected to your deeper desires for love and prosperity on all levels, otherwise it won’t feel like you are getting anywhere that good and 2020 wants to help you go far.
Keep yourself on track by reprioritizing your habits. Take the smallest acts of self-improvement seriously. Organize your days so that they seamlessly motivate you to improve what needs a tune up.
This year master the art of being on your own side.
As Venus retrogrades through your 6th House (May 13th – June 25th), you are encouraged to review your relationship to your work projects, routines, and rituals. Professional connections get a thorough investigation and any interpersonal dynamics that need adjustments become increasingly louder until you listen to them.
As Mars spends a ridiculous amount of time in your 4th House of foundations (it’s there the entire second half of the year and retrograde from September 9th – November 14th) you are encouraged to work through issues related to housing, rooting, and sorting through the family dynamics that may be daunting but decidedly important to make conscious. You aren’t being asked to solve, fix, or change anything or anyone. You are just being asked to understand your roots and their relationship to your present situation. With that knowledge, change can take shape on its own and an appreciation for how far you’ve come can rise to the surface.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising Horoscope for 2020
For you, the most important action of 2020 takes place just out of view. That’s not to say that you are obscured in any way, it just means that what goes on in the darkrooms of your life and creative incubators of your being is incredibly important to pay attention to.
Go where there’s reciprocity. The deeper you connect to the sources of energy that sustain you the more you are able to do, reach for, and be a part of. This takes discipline, dedication, and an appreciation for the more subtle work you are being asked for, but doing things for the benefits (and not the applause) that they bring, garners you epic amounts of long-lasting satisfaction.
By March, Saturn enters your 1st House of self and stays until July. During this 4 month stint, you’ll begin a new process of self-mastery that spans the next 3 years. The quality of the responsibilities that you take on counts. As much as possible refuse to be burdened with the mess that someone else left. Let every grown person in your life act like one, and when they can’t, they can sit with that until they choose otherwise.
Saturn in your 1st House is A Boss Bitch Mood. Make the appropriate moves.
Come May, the north node and Venus retrograde asks you to tango. Moving through your 5th House of play, creative energy, and romantic entanglements, this dynamic duo increases the risk of having feelings, needing things from others, and wanting to be swept away by a romantic comedy kind of love. With or without dating drama, Venus will demand that you make a thorough investigation of the ways in which you are using your creative energy. Your appetite for making things is maximized and being selective is key to making great works of art.
Mars moves through your 3rd House of extended family, daily life, and communications during the last half of the year. Its extended stay means that your messages pack incredible power. You’ll need to learn how to deliver with deftness and without doing too much unnecessary damage. Routes around town may go through unprecedented closures and detours between September 9th – November 14th when Mars is retrograde, but these little side excursions are the point. New routes around old obstacles are needed and Mars makes sure you find them.

Pisces & Pisces Rising Horoscope for 2020
2020 will divide your attention between your home life and your social life. Socially, the emphasis is on the commitments that you have to others. The roles that you fulfill for friends and communities is a hot topic of 2020 and brings opportunities for growth in great quantities. This can only be done through having the necessary boundaries, however. Unconditional love needs to be given to yourself, first and always. Those that you make commitments to need to be vetted for their own integrity and ability to follow through. Not everyone deserves access to your wells of creative bounty.
As Venus retrogrades through your 4th House of home and family from May 13th – June 25th you get to reorganize your closets, replant your favorite green friends, and root down into domestic bliss. In order to do so however, you’ll need to clear out a little space for yourself. Feel no way about taking time away from family members that drain or derail you. You are in need of a safe place to land and you need to give it to yourself no matter how much it upsets others. Your hunger for a sanctuary only increases with the north node’s transit through this part of your chart at the same time as Venus’s retrograde.
Mars retrogrades from September 9th – November 14th, reminding you that money matters must be minded. How you make a living is a concern of yours, one that you need not shy away from. It is here that you are able to retrieve a part of your power that you have unconsciously given away. Your self-worth is, in part, dependent on your ability to take whatever agency you have and make the most of it. Mars wants you to focus on your ability to master some aspect of your income, livelihood, and resources. However you work with them, ask for the courage to do so with clarity and confidence.
