Turning the wheel
The Sun’s entry into Capricorn on December 21st coincides with extremes of light: as daylight reaches a nadir in the Northern Hemisphere, it climaxes in the South. Capricorn Season brings a keen awareness of time. We buy new yearly planners. We resolve to make good use of the next 12 months. We read our year-ahead forecasts. We dream a dream of endurance, of coming into integrity with ourselves, of becoming better with age.
Awareness of time has a way of bringing us into the embrace of gravity. With all of that and then some, this year’s Capricorn Season is made hefty with gravitas, with momentous turnings of the wheel.
On December 23rd/24th, Saturn completes its final square with Uranus. The defining transit of 2021 reaches its grand finale. Though we can expect a long epilogue to come in 2022, the “make it or break it” ultimatum is happening now. This has been the year of learning to steady yourself when things fall apart. But also, we’ve learned to embrace the live wire inside us that delights in a little dishevelling.
Venus is now in the midst of its underworld descent, emphasized by its second conjunction to Pluto on December 25th. We’re in the thick of it: spelunking into our own shadow and vulnerable spaces. Jupiter’s return to Pisces on December 28th brings a generosity of spirit that makes up for some of the more tangible delights missing from the holiday table. In its nocturnal home, Jupiter extends generosity and enchants with bottomless cups of compassion.
Drink up.
Retrograde rewinds and nodal shifts
The Capricorn New Moon on January 2nd would offer a chance to step into the new year with yesterday’s refuse swept beyond our threshold — but retrogrades.
Not only is Venus already retrograde as the new year dawns, but on January 14th, Mercury begins its first retrograde of 2022. The first month of the year is about clearing the debris, reviewing the chambers of our heart and the grooves our mind zooms along. How we think and feel about the structures of our existence comes into sharp focus.
What isn’t ready to go in the trash is up for retooling.
On January 17th, the Full Moon in Cancer extends a tissue and soft blanket as we near the darkest hour of Venus’ retrograde and the beginning of Mercury’s. What is ragged can be soothed, but it must be understood and felt.
As if that wasn’t enough action for one month, the lunar nodes change signs on January 18th. And so, we enter another 18-month chapter of bright endings and beginnings along the Taurus/Scorpio axis. Themes of security, control, grief, and pleasure abound. Letting go of the vice grip we’ve been maintaining is a prerequisite to inviting in more of Eden’s delights.

Aries & Aries Rising
While everyone else retreats into holiday mode, you usually find yourself catapulted into the professional spotlight during Capricorn Season. Or at least, you’re more focused on this part of your life: the work and roles that others know you for.
This year, your professional and public life is under construction. As Venus retrograde sinks into a conjunction with Pluto on December 25th, you’re reacquainting yourself with some familiar monsters — imposter syndrome, or the pressure to sell your soul for success — in order to get back to what you value in the long-term.
The unflinching excavation you do now around your goals and ambitions will prepare you to eventually pivot when the time feels right — or when the time announces itself to you.
On the heels of Saturn squaring Uranus one last time on December 24th, a glimmer of financial freedom beckons from within the rubble. After the North Node enters Taurus on January 18th, the next year and a half will be driven by a powerful compulsion to amass wealth and secure your own pleasure garden.

Taurus & Taurus Rising
When in Capricorn, the Sun focuses its beams on your educational journey, your belief system, and your travels through turf and theory. This year, Venus happens to be retrograde in the same part of your chart, underscoring this soul search.
That’s not even half of it for you. When Saturn squares Uranus for the final time this year on December 24th, you free yourself in a more satisfying way from the shackles of your professional image. Even if it’s a role you’re ready to assume, the shake-ups over the past year have unhooked your attachment to “who the world needs you to be.”
If anything, 2021 was just the rough draft of your self-empowerment journey. Once the North Node enters Taurus on January 18th, the next big chapter will be driven by your impetus to glow up, follow the guidance of your own ambitions, and prioritize the relationships that support your personal growth.

Gemini & Gemini Rising
Usually, Capricorn Season is the time of year when you commune with familiar ghosts and examine the reciprocity in your life. More plainly, it’s also when your finances ask for more attention.
With the co-presence of Venus backpedaling through the goat’s mountainous terrain, these topics become more closely felt. At some point, you might decide you want a refund on the resources or emotional energy you’ve invested along the way. If not that, you might emerge from this period more firmly wedded to the entanglements that demonstrate signs of integrity.
You’ll also probably welcome the return of Jupiter to Pisces on December 28th, which sets you up for windfalls of recognition during the first half of 2022. Having a slate of new possibilities in front of you will influence the appraisals you make through the course of Venus’ retrograde.
Your ruling planet, Mercury, also stations retrograde in Aquarius on January 14th. You might need to run some empirical tests on your political or spiritual beliefs during the next couple weeks, or return to some old college lecture notes. Sometimes, the answers we need in the present were handed to us way back in the past.

Cancer & Cancer Rising
As the Sun makes its steady way through Capricorn, partnership takes centerstage in your world. Although this time of year usually brings your soulmates to the fore of your mind, the added Venus retrograde will tug you deeper into these interrogations of heart and soul.
Your loyalty is a pure and abiding thing, but it, too, can become corrupted in the wrong hands. Are the people you’re bonded to worthy of being held in such high esteem? Better yet, can you stay with the process and learn to live with the flaws of those who have proved their mettle?
There’s a new moon in Capricorn on January 2nd, coming right on time to help you enter 2022 with a renewed commitment to understand the intricacies of your heart and how to love others with it — bruises, beauty, and all. If you want to move forward, you’ll have to leave old arguments and wrongs in the past, once a sincere effort of repair has been made.
On January 17th, the full moon in Cancer brings the swirling ocean of your experience into high tide, allowing you to more acutely perceive how much personal growth you’ve accomplished, as well as how far you may be from your desired level of wholeness. Offer a benediction of appreciation for yourself regardless.

Leo & Leo Rising
You may or may not be the kind of person who likes to make New Year’s resolutions, but there’s something about Capricorn Season that puts you in the mindset to look at your lifestyle, work, and wellness habits more pragmatically.
With Venus currently retrograde in the same sign, your consideration involves more soul-searching this year. What would it mean for your labor to be appropriately valued? What does good health mean to you, personally, over the long-term? What deals with the devil have you made involving your workload and regular routines?
If a change is what you need, there’s plenty of cosmic assistance around you. On December 24th, Saturn makes its final square with Uranus for the year, helping you gain more support and knock down the obsolete structures in your life that have been standing in the way of your professional weirdening.
The space you clear helps set you up for the next leg of your journey. When the North Node enters Taurus on January 18th, you’ll be mixing up the status quo in your career and living situations. For the next 18 months, your fertile ambitions pull you in all sorts of exciting directions.

Virgo & Virgo Rising
As the Sun arcs its way through Capricorn, you receive a cosmic mandate to embrace the festive spirit on your own terms. (And maybe less on the terms of your family or the house guests you’re entertaining.) Play dates, game nights, and morning pages are not “extras,” but a way of being accountable to yourself.
This year, the added impact of Venus Retrograde in this same part of the sky makes your improvisations that much more meaningful. Revisiting the former flames, creative sparks, and kinks you once loved help you rediscover something of enduring value to your heart.
Speaking of heart, Jupiter makes its triumphant return to Pisces on December 28th. That glimmer of potential you felt between May and July returns with a few more rainbows.
It’s true — falling in love with potential can be a trap. But sometimes you need to drink from the cup of faith to overcome your own protective skepticism. Skepticism can be its own delusion too. Knowing the difference is tricky, but if there’s anyone who can do this with discernment, it’s you.

Libra & Libra Rising
With the Sun lighting your hearth (or candle on the coffee table) for the next month, home and kinship become your center of gravity.
The added presence of Venus Retrograde in Capricorn means you’ll be dwelling here more substantially this year. Scouring the basement for a treasured family heirloom, redecorating your pad, and probing the value systems you inherited in early childhood are all different ways of approaching the same goal. It takes a good deal of soul-searching to resurrect something of value.
Jupiter re-enters Pisces on December 28th, restoring the banquet of job-related possibilities that was dangling in front of you earlier this year. On top of that, the Cancer Full Moon on January 17th marks a shiny moment for your career.
Even as you’re immersed in your archeological dig this month, your work situation might be ready to pop like a bottle of something fizzy. While you’re out there searching for buried treasure, consider how your foundation and wellness habits can better nurture your goals. You can’t pour from an empty cup, but fortunately, Jupiter’s entire M.O. is to top you up.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
When in Capricorn, the Sun takes the form of a reliable lamp on your writing desk, or the glare from your phone as it lights up with text notifications. This time of year is when your ideas, group chats, and habitual daily movements take centerstage — when your siblings, extended family, and best friends provide you with warmth, or at least a focal point for your attention.
With the added Venus Retrograde this year, these exchanges turn into love notes that aim to resurrect something worthwhile from your past. Through this soul-searching, you return to what was good, or sturdy, about your relationship with someone close, about your rituals or daily praxis, and about the communiqués that cross your desk.
In the aftermath of Saturn’s final square to Uranus on December 24th, you’ll also be figuring out what to do with the new paradigm you’ve eked out for yourself. Between family and relationship concerns, something has had to give. A stable foundation is necessary for the most liberated love to thrive.
Your partnerships will continue to evolve in leaps and bounds over the next year and a half, after the nodes enter Taurus and Scorpio on January 18th. The most impactful relationships leave us fundamentally altered at our core. Surrendering to the process of becoming requires an unbecoming first.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
Capricorn Season is your season for taking inventory, taking stock, and minding your money. Not just a month-long nose-dive into spreadsheet land, this time of year tends to center your awareness on the value and integrity of your resources — including your core competencies and the goods in your pantry.
Imbued with an added dimension of heart-searching this year thanks to Venus’ retrograde, these next few weeks will find you weeding what no longer strikes your fancy from your closet, considering ways to topple consumerist capitalism, or reappraising the price tag you’ve put on your own worth as a person.
Fortunately, the return of Jupiter to Pisces on December 28th should help gas you up a little. As your ruling planet returns to a position of benevolent power, and especially after the South Node leaves Sagittarius on January 18th, you’ll feel restored to your usual self. Perhaps to a level you haven’t felt for nearly two years.
Sweeping through Pisces during the first half of 2022, Jupiter fills you with excitement for a more abundant experience of home and those you call kin.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
With the Sun lighting up your sign for a month, you yourself might feel like coming out of hibernation and soaking up the appreciation you get for simply showing up as yourself. The Capricorn Sun knows how to work your angles, how to capture the glow of your integrity.
With Venus also beginning a retrograde in Capricorn right now, the lighting of the moment is flattering for you. Whether you personally see it that way is another matter, however.
Venus’ retrograde this year brings you deeper into communion with your beauty, but it does this by asking you not to disown your ugly parts. This more or less amounts to a soul retrieval, or a rose learning to love its own thorns. Your wholeness is the most striking thing of all.
As these programs run in the background, you emerge into the new year with a deeply felt sense of starting fresh. The new moon in Capricorn on January 2nd renews your emotional reserves and helps you forgive yourself for all the ways you didn’t meet your own expectations in 2021. Take yesterday’s debris out with the trash. The future requests your RSVP.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
As the world at large retires for the holidays, as the pace of life slows to reflect on the year gone by, you, too, are often synced up with the imperative to rest, retreat, and gather your bones for your next moves. Though you might be preoccupied with worries and anxiety, giving yourself ample space to unplug from the world is often the correct cosmically prescribed medicine.
This year’s Capricorn Season demands a more ardent approach to your sacred rest than usual. With the added Venus retrograde, the level of soul-searching that wants to take place might require a greater demand on your emotional resources. Investing in yourself means investing in your process. Plugging up the holes where your energy leaks is a devotional act.
To be fair, there’s plenty else happening that might require you to plunge into the deep end of your hermetic chamber. On December 24th, Saturn makes its final square to Uranus for the year, helping you see exactly what still needs to break from the past in order for you to fully establish yourself in the present.
You are never a finished work, though, but a work in progress. Mercury stations retrograde in Aquarius on January 14th, giving you permission to revise your autobiographical memory in order to more completely understand who you are in the process of becoming.

Pisces & Pisces Rising
When the Sun is trekking through Capricorn, the volume is often dialed way up on your social life. You might RSVP “yes” to all those invitations out of a sense of duty and loyalty to your people, but the times are festive, and in your case, “the more, the merrier.”
Capricorn Season is also when you become more aware of your role within a community, movement, or the greater collective. This year’s Venus Retrograde adds more tasting notes to the melange.
What kinds of sacrifices have you made for the sake of belonging? Are the folks around you people you can grow with over time, or are they fast to fade friendships? Acquaintances can become soulmates, but you’ll have to decide if you can stay with the process when you see them in less flattering lighting.
The party will go on regardless, especially after Jupiter makes its grand return to Pisces on December 28th. The sense of buoyancy and limitlessness you felt between May and July returns to take you even higher in your personal glow up. A fountain of plenty wells within you. When your cup is full, it runs over into every other stream of your life.
