Justice is only a concept until all that keeps us from it is confronted, resisted and dismantled. Continually. Consistently. Perpetually. Justice comes to those who fight for it. And never stop fighting for it. Because justice has enemies that never, ever sleep.
Seeking justice is soul work. The soul knows what is eternally important. The soul knows that the rewards of seeking justice far outweigh the risks. The soul knows that this life is not to be lived for ourselves alone, but for all who fought before us, all who live it with us and all to come after us.
If we choose to drift into a false sense of security now, if we normalize what is currently taking place, if we choose our own safety over the safety of everyone under the sun, we are leveraging the lives of others for our own comfort. Our souls know this and our souls know that this will never bring us peace. Our souls know that we will be haunted to our deathbed and beyond if we fail to rise up to this moment and refuse the evils of it.
Pretty words won’t help us out of this hole we have dug ourselves into. Clinging to flimsy ideologies of oneness won’t either. Extolling thin, unsubstantial, uncritical spiritual truisms that only lull us into complacency at a moment of crisis, such as this, will only make our current situation worse. What we need now is a faith that can see us through hell and back. A faith that isn’t afraid to get dirty. A faith that demands we look deep into ourselves and get very clear about who we are and who we wish to be.
We need a sturdy sense of self. An unwavering commitment to what is right, no matter the personal cost because, in the face of corruption, we must risk all that has previously buffered us from harm.
And we must do so without seeking personal gain.
We must be wary of the ways in which we feed our savior complexes. Allyship is not a performance. It is not something that you put on and then take off. It is, in part, a dedication to placing ourselves in danger, to leveraging our privilege in order to disrupt or lesson the threat that another is facing.
But it is not something to be applauded.
Being a decent human isn’t something that should garner us attention. We aren’t special when we find the courage to act right. Our souls aren’t saved by doing right once. Each day is a new day. Let us not lean on what we did yesterday. Let us wake up every morning wondering what we can do with the 24 hours that is before us.
Let us be more concerned with sincere change, both within ourselves and in the world than with the change of our social status. Or our status updates.
Being a nice, sweet, kind person is useful at times, but it can actually impede our ability to uproot the real cause of harm. Our likability isn’t going to protect others from violence, abuse, deportation or death. And it won’t protect us either.
Jupiter’s transit through Libra exaggerates all these lessons. And then some.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance, magnification, magnanimity and growth. It governs our beliefs, our laws, our justice system and grants the openness to possibly develop a spiritual and philosophical sensibility.
Jupiter spends one year traveling through each sign. As it does, Jupiter magnifies the meaning of that sign. It exaggerates the style of that sign. It makes the issues of that sign undeniable.
Jupiter is currently in Libra. Libra is a sign that seeks peace, justice, equality, relationship and harmony. Libra loves to be liked. Libra loves to be in relationship. Libra loves it when everyone gets a long. Libra, when distorted, will try to maintain peace by making nice, by people-pleasing and by trying to smooth over the ruffled feathers that occur when social disagreements take place. Libra can easily lean on superficial solutions of saccharine sweetness to escape conflict and try in vain to fain a fake kind of peace.
But those weak tactics will only lead more quickly to our own demise in the world in which we find ourselves in now.
On November 24th, Jupiter in Libra will make its first square to Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is a planet that transforms whatever it touches. Completely. Absolutely. Without option of going back.
We are never the same once Pluto has touched our lives. The planet strips us of our innocence and takes from us what we think we most need. Although eventually regenerative, Pluto transits are first felt for their destructive qualities.
In Capricorn, Pluto is set on fiscal, material and structural transformations. Capricorn knows of traditional hierarchies and climbing to the top of them. Pluto is a planet that symbolizes power. In Capricorn, Pluto asks us to see the corruption that lays at the heart of our relationship to the earth’s resources.
Pluto moved into Capricorn in 2008, the year that will go down in history as one of the worst financial crises America has ever faced. Since then we have seen banks too big to fail, fat cats getting fatter and citizen’s united becoming more, well, united. Now, we find ourselves threatened with the presidency of a man whose only concern is how much he can personally profit from merging the power of the White House with his Trump Towers.
Jupiter will square Pluto three times in total. Once on November 24th 2016, again on March 30th 2017, and for the last time on August 4th 2017.
This is only the beginning.
Squares cause friction. They are dynamic. They are stressful. They reveal what we do under such circumstances. Generally speaking, a square between Jupiter and Pluto is one that stirs the hunger, the desire, and the need to succeed.
The question we all must sit with is what exactly are we trying to succeed at and what are we willing to risk in order to make that a reality.
Blessings,
Chani
