*Please note that I only write about the major aspects of the week
Tuesday, January 5th
Mercury in Aquarius square Mars in Scorpio (both at 1 degree)
Mercury stations retrograde at 0’ 57 of Aquarius (retrograde from January 5th-25th)
Venus in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces (both at 7 degrees)
Sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (at 15 degrees)
This is a day. A day inside a week. Work this one out moment by moment astrobabes and cosmic kitty cats.
Let’s start with Mercury retrograde (January 5th-25th).
As Mercury stations retrograde at the early edges of Aquarius, its squared by edgy, angry Mars also newly embedded in Scorpio. This is a retrograde that demands our attention. Read all about it here.
The Venus/Neptune square that also happens today won’t help these matters much. Venus is actually activating a larger celestial construction, the Saturn/Neptune square, that is with us until September 2016.
While Venus looks for connections that feel good and promote pleasure, Neptune has a propensity to induce an unconsciousness around the dangers that can accompany such pleasure principles. A Neptune/Venus combination can choose to look the other way when it is being harmed, taken advantage of or claim to be completely unconscious of its effect on others. If there is a constructive side to this aspect it can help us to seek an unconditional source of love, intimacy and union with ourselves and others. It can also open up an entrance to endless creative visualizations, which is how I advise using the energy. Work with healing images.
Sun conjunct Pluto is the icing on the cake of Tuesday. It is a no holds barred type of astrological influence. Pluto does not mess around. It throws shade for days. The mother of Darth Vader, Pluto lords over the underworld, the dark, the wealth, the unstoppable forces of nature that will eventually take every last one of us. Pluto is the end. Pluto is the great purging. To merge conscious identity (sun) with such a power source, on a day as like this (see above) is a mighty mixture indeed. If we can keep our egos in check, there is great potential here. Using our personal will towards a collective good can go a long way. It’s a far better choice than joining the ranks of petty tyrants and diabolical douchebags.
Thursday, January 7th
Sun in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries (both 16 degrees)
Jupiter stations retrograde (at 23 degrees of Virgo)
Like a jolt of lightening, the sun moving from a conjunction with Pluto to a square with Uranus reunites the now dwindling but still powerful Uranus/Pluto square. This points to the place that Capricorn occupies in your chart (as well as Aries). There are no escape routes from the situation that you are working on. Better to bravely face the facts now for Mercury will be revisiting these points twice come the end of the month.
Jupiter stations retrograde in Virgo today as well. This combination would like to elevate organization in our lives. Jupiter in Virgo wants to know every detail of what we are doing. It’s not one to shop work out. It has the capacity to hold facts and figures like no other combination.
Right now Jupiter is ruled by Mercury because Virgo is one of the signs that Mercury rules. Because of Mercury’s recent retrograde, Jupiter is extra wobbly. Facts, figures, numbers, calculations and data are to be checked and rechecked. Plans are best put on the back burner until we have a better view of the horizon (look towards the end of the month).
Friday, January 8th
Moon enters Capricorn
Mercury enters Capricorn (retrograde)
Venus conjunct Saturn at 12 degrees of Sagittarius
As the moon enters 0 degrees of Capricorn, Mercury retrogrades back to 29 degrees of the goat’s terrain. Again, we see the emphasis on Capricorn this week. The moon is now dark, about to be renewed on Saturday. Focus your efforts on releasing, on getting still, on letting go of attitudes that no longer serve you and ambitions that don’t have your highest good in mind.
Mercury is well retrograde at this point. Moving closer to the sun every day and, mythologically, deeper in its descent into the underworld.
The ruler of Capricorn is Saturn. Saturn is being snuggled by Venus today. Helpful for Saturn, not so happy for Venus. Venus wants love and pleasure. Saturn wants rules and commitment. The two will have to see what they can negotiate as it relates to relationships and so will we.

Aries & Aries Rising
While there could be something to work out with a friend, colleague or community member this week, the most interesting thing to pay attention to right now is how you deal with these dicey debates. Sometimes there is simply nothing to win. Sometimes there is no right. Sometimes there are multiple wrongs. Sometimes things are more complicated than we’d like them to be and all we can do is our best in the moment. Sometimes there are no answers available. They are out of the office. They are away for the holidays. They’ll be back in an hour. All we can do is wait.
Try waiting constructively.
Refrain from making up stories about why others do the things they do. Refrain from making partial statements into a thesis. Refrain from filling in the blanks completely. Leave room for learning. Leave room for human error. Leave room for the things you can’t yet see.
Saturday’s new moon sets your career house humming along some pretty intense tracks. Looks like you are itching to take a bite out of what you are beginning. Looks like you are wanting to make moves that are undeniably deliberate advancements towards inhabiting more of your power in your professional life.
Mercury retrograde messes with some of your more direct plans. There are some things that will have to wait, but that isn’t a bad thing. Take your drive seriously. Take your ambitions into account. Take others up on the help they’d like to hand you and take the next three weeks to revise, rework and strategically lay down the law for future feats to be accomplished.
I’ve got the first monthly new moon installment of 2016, A Ritual For Renewal: New Moon in Capricorn, which explores the astrology of the lunar cycle from January 9th – February 7th. Taurus & Taurus Rising
The thing about the beginning of the week is that normally secret sentiments may have a way of becoming public. Careful that you don’t send your boss a text that was meant for your lover. Careful that you don’t send an email to your crush that was meant for your bestie that just so happens to be about your crush. Careful not to care too much if any of those minor slip-ups slip out. Worse things can happen.
Things like never letting someone know how you feel. Things like never letting old flames go. Things like being wrapped up in envy, greed or revenge fantasies towards those that didn’t (couldn’t?) give you what you need (and deserve, obvi). Things like waiting to be recognized in your career by superiors and never recognizing your own efforts, talents and tremendous efforts.
Saturday’s new moon has the power to set you on track for a spiritual renewal. One that wants to suss out those that would sell you fake potions, fear-based oracles and doctrines of deceit. Saturday’s new moon has the power to shake up what you consider holy and wholly important. Saturday’s new moon might kick your ass into gear around going for what is truly meaningful to you and letting all other distractions get crossed off your list. Smash the tropes that keep you from knowing yourself.

Gemini & Gemini Rising
With your ruling planet, Mercury, entering a dramatic retrograde this Tuesday, it’s anyone’s guess as to what kind of conversations you’ll come up against. If you had an all out, drag-out philosophical face-off, I wouldn’t be surprised. If some project that you are working on (especially as it relates to co-workers, school, teachers, travel or religion) becomes difficult, burdensome or if you find yourself questioning your connection to it and if it’s worth the work, that too would make sense. If this week rolls out more subtly and instead offers you some kind of insight around your health and the mind/body connection needed to feel at your optimal, this too would fit into your astrology this week.
So too would relationship issues arising to be clarified. Things that may have lingered for months are now demanding clear definition.
Saturday’s new moon and the rest of Mercury’s retrograde madness all happen in a part of your chart that delves into the deep waters of shame, regret, debt and the destructive patterns we all house in our psyches. The human condition demands that we confront our fears or get eaten alive by them. Loss is inevitable. But so is renewal of the spirit if we take up the intense task of rescuing ourselves.
I’m going to suggest that you do so by letting others help you. I’m going to suggest that you compost your shame around what you’ve been given to carry, what you have inherited and what you owe so that you can strategize for regrowth. I’m going to suggest that you look at your debt and make strategic measures to do what you can to manage it. Meanwhile see about making some psychological room around feelings that you have about it so that you don’t discredit yourself in the face of an unfair system. Make it possible to allow others to help you. Don’t be too proud to be receptive towards what wants to support you and your growth.

Cancer & Cancer Rising
Something may have recently gotten your senses on defense. Something may have gone wonky in your communications with another/others. Something that struck a chord, a chord that lies beneath the surface, a chord you may not have known about may have recently ruined a good groove.
Perhaps one was struck in you.
Lessons about how to love other humans stalk your days and nights these next few weeks. Lessons about having the tenderest underbelly known to cosmic creations do too. Lessons about not getting caught in the nets of regret can be helpful given that you’ve got to do the best you can and then release yourself from worrying about it.
You can’t take on every aspect of every relationship that you are in. You’ve got to give grown ass folks a chance to act like it.
Saturday’s new moon wants to break down old defenses that make it hard for love to get through to you. Saturday’s new moon wants you to remember that each creative act you commit to is also a relationship that can sustain you with a deep satisfaction. Saturday’s new moon wants to next level your commitment to deconstructing all the walls that keep out what you so desperately deserve: a truly loving embrace that lasts.

Leo & Leo Rising
The week may start out a little tense, or with discussions that demand a strict no BS policy. Talks that have to do with home, foundation and family. Talks that have to do with commitment, terms and intentions. Talks that have everything to do with your tender heart and how it works in tandem with others (and when it doesn’t). It’s OK to feel lonely when you are in a relationship because your first one is always to yourself. It’s OK to have love destabilize your home life a little because home is where the heart is and serious loves make us want to move mountains and change addresses. It’s OK to have a difference of opinion with those you live with because that’s what happens when humans cohabitate.
The point is that some conversations this week are bound to help you get down to the heart of a matter and what matters most to your heart. Try going gracefully when possible.
Saturday’s new moon spurs sentiments at work or in regards to the projects that you are hard at work on (workout regimes included). A desire to strive for more might be sneaking up on you. A surge in your appetite for bargaining power, a need to transform and renew your dedication to the job or a realization that you have outgrown your surroundings and are simply craving more might be dawning on you. You’ve got to give yourself room to expand, room to review and room for more of you in all that you do at work and beyond.

Virgo & Virgo Rising
Not only is your ruling planet, Mercury, stationing retrograde this week, but Jupiter, currently in Virgo, will also being doing an about face.
That’s a lot of review for you.
It might be that you are beginning the process of looking back on all that you have gained in the last year. It might be that you need to have a strategic conversation with your management team. It might mean that you want to plan your way out of an employment situation that can’t seem to hold you for too much longer.
My, how you’ve grown.
It could be that you are just that much more confident about your competence that you are completely unable to put up with anything less than the best for you in this moment. It could also be that a new love has rallied your efforts to make something more out of the work that you do. It could be a new commitment, or a realization about home and family that has caught your attention.
Saturday’s new moon begins a new phase of your romantic journey, your creative path and/or any newfound modes of self-expression you’ve stumbled upon. You have a deep well to draw from right now. You’ve got creative callings. You’ve got epic amounts of love to share with others. You’ve got more than one old romantic situation to salvage, seal up or set right. You’ve got a lot of review to do in terms of the kiddos in your life and how you find your way of working through issues with them.
If you can carve out some new moon intention setting time make it rich with incantations for healing your heart and helping you find a way to play everyday.

Libra & Libra Rising
While this week’s astrology may make you bristle when it comes to dealing with difficult lovers, the real conversation seems to be about the sources of praise that you seek. Is there some part of yourself that needs attention? Is there some aspect that feels left out, ugly, unworthy of adoration or altogether unloveable? Are there feelings of rejection that you are sorting through that make you vulnerable to self-denial or depression?
Give yourself the love you seek.
Notice what happens to you when you try to acquire outside validation. Notice what happens to your energy when you need another or many others to tell you that you are enough. Notice how much self worth can be derived from doing the best job possible right now. That’s where your power is this week and for the next few. Use it.
Saturday’s new moon occurs in your 4th house of home, family and foundation. It’s an invitation to root down. It’s an invitation to uproot the weeds that strangle diversity. It’s an invitation to revitalize the soil that you build your life upon. Compost your stories of not belonging, of not having a home, and of not knowing where to be. Dig down until you find warmth. Re-plant yourself, re-parent yourself, and re-name yourself found.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
While the beginning of the week asks you to ponder questions that poke at your core stories, wounds and childhood issues, the rest of the week focuses on what you do with that information. Where do you go internally when faced with those that rock your boat? What happens to you when your sense of security is challenged? What are your oldest defenses? What are your patterns of protection?
If we are down for the journey, these can be the most interesting and transformative aspects of being a human. Learning how we tick, teaching ourselves not to fear the monsters under our bed, and learning how to be in dialogue with what we have run from all our lives is the road to finding our own redemption. On our own terms. On our own time.
Saturday’s new moon is an invitation to purge your daily duties of all that doesn’t count for much. The time consuming little escapades might need to get cut from the calendar so that more important matters can be front and center. Get to your big tasks, your big ideas and the big conversations that you need to have. With Mercury mostly retrograde through this part of your chart it’s not that all your conversations and ideas will be made immediately manifest; it’s just that clearing room for them will help you review, rework and edit them into perfection and a final product that you are proud of come the end of January.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
You might be searching for the right words but, just like looking for something that you have dropped in the dark, time needs to be spent feeling out the edges of your surroundings first. This is necessary if you are to find the essence of your sentiment. Be strategic, be cunning when needed, be willing to cloak what needs to stay private but to say what the situation calls for so that you might do right by it.
With Venus and Saturn coming together in your sign this week there may be a need to commit to yourself in a way you never have. Past the illusions, the lies, the stories that you or others from your past made up about your unworthiness, your failures or your bad luck. Find your core, your center, your unwavering Self and put a ring on it.
Saturday’s new moon is an invitation to renew your self-respect. Saturday’s new moon is an invitation to mine your resources for the gold that lies there. Saturday’s new moon may just reveal a plan for financial windfalls that occur as a byproduct of believing in yourself. If the money doesn’t come that easy it doesn’t mean you haven’t done it right or that you have done anything wrong. That’s just new age, aggressively positive, capitalist propaganda. Since Mercury is retrograde (mostly) through your 2nd house of finances, some of the cash flow could go a little astray, but it’s only momentary. Keep your eye on the work that you can do around self-value and self-appreciation through cultivating all your skills and reviewing your business strategies.
With your ruling planet, Jupiter, also stationing retrograde in your 10th house of career, this first month of the year is likely to have you rethinking aspects of how you go about your business. Keep your faith in yourself alive and you’ll find more efficient ways of working, all the while feeling you are in a process that is perfect for you.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
Time is a funny thing. It loops, it wobbles, and yet it still has a way of marching on. Relationships return, they go missing, they have multiple incarnations in a life. You may be feeling the loss of some while noticing the rise of others, noticing how each relationship in your life has its own season(s), and appreciating the need on all sides for these different iterations.
With your birthday blooming and Mercury (mostly) retrograde in your sign you may feel these phenomena more than most in the coming weeks. You may feel a kind of gentle-to-urgent undoing of your identity. You may feel certain surges of energy and urges to renew yourself, your yearly strategy and your way of relating to life itself.
Shed the layers. You don’t need to take it all with you. In fact you may feel the need to enter this year a little less prepared, a little less encumbered or a little more up for the unexpected.
Saturday’s new moon in Capricorn asks you to excavate your powers of self-perception. See yourself. Strip down. Sit still. Settle in. Let renewal be your religion. Give yourself the freedom that you haven’t felt worthy of having. Give yourself the gift of a complete makeover. Give yourself some room to move because it looks like you could be shifting your home base, allowing your internal one to reinvent itself or being charged with the task of trying to ground while it’s shifting beneath your feet. The good news there is that it hopefully keeps you feeling stimulated and excited on a fundamental level.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
The week opens up with many demands. Conflicting needs seem to pull you into your public life, your social circles and those you share your hopes and dreams with while another side of yourself is in deep need of turning inward. There is a need to tend to both aspects of your life, but by the end of the week the hidden realms win as they hold the key to your renewal.
With Mercury stationing retrograde in your sign this Tuesday you may feel a brush with self-doubt. You may need to detangle yourself from a scuffle at work. You may need to ponder the ways in which you are handling conflict, especially in public matters.
Sometimes little scuffles are just our invitation inward. Sometimes minor irritations just get us to pause long enough to root around for the pebble in our shoe. This more aptly describes the majority of Mercury’s retrograde for you, though by the end of the month you may have located something more like a boulder to dislodge from an inconvenient location.
Saturday’s new moon is an opening that may help you to make the most of this inward gazing. Make a ritual out of napping. Make a ritual out of refreshing yourself and resetting your body, mind and spirit. Make a ritual out of taking the day off to let yourself decompress and, if in the process you come up against memories, feelings and facts long repressed, remember that it’s part of the process and not part of the problem.

Pisces & Pisces Rising
With your ruling planet, Jupiter, stationing retrograde this week, days after Mercury does the same, there is a momentary wobble in your relationships. This can manifest in a multitude of ways regarding communication, connection, intent, impact and any other aspect of intimacy that you are currently working on. Just remember that in weeks like these many of the things we assume end up not at all being true. Give yourself and everyone else the chance to tell their own tales, which could take the next couple of weeks to complete.
With Mercury beginning its retrograde in a part of your chart that deals with aspects of our selves that tend towards self-destruction, Tuesday may evoke a knee-jerk response in you that reveals such tendencies. It’s a quick transit so downplay any internal drama by listening to and loving yourself through it.
The rest of the retrograde is spent retracing your steps through your 11th house in an attempt to understand your relationships with friends, allies and your place in the group on a deeper level. This is also the place that Saturday’s new moon initiates and renews. You may be reorganizing how you handle your social life. With a major career commitment up this week, there could be a couple of reasons why you need to pay deeper attention to who is really down for you and who might be draining your resources.
