Process the sensory world
Languorous thoughts invite us to slow the crawl of mental activity while Mercury makes its sweet way through Taurus. The rapid-fire exclamation marks of Mercury in Aries give way to grounding exercises that call you to name a sight, sound, texture, and smell in your immediate environment.
Mercury in Taurus is a sensory processing genius: a food or perfume savant who can identify each rare and subtle flavor note. When we think, we think less out loud and more through the act of noticing. Noticing, as it turns out, can be a devotional act.
We get two distinct episodes of Mercury in Taurus — one while it’s direct, and one while it’s wrapping up the tail of a retrograde that begins in Gemini. Yet almost all of Mercury’s time in Taurus occurs with its ruling planet, Venus, in a position of great strength.
Love letters and YouTube beauty tutorials sing under this influence. Art, pleasure, and the good life are things that can be explained, memed, poetized, conceptualized, and talked about.
Downloads and a critical decision
From April 10th through April 29th, Mercury breezes through Taurus under the care of an exalted Venus. The two form a sextile early in their courtship on April 17th, which is also when Mercury catches up to Uranus. Remain committed to your education as an apprenticeship of art and love. The downloads come fast, perhaps throwing you for a loop that you’ll probably enjoy.
The time for a critical decision arrives around April 23rd and 24th, when Mercury reasons with the North Node and Saturn. We might be ready to roll with the information we’re receiving, but something could be holding us back.
Look for pragmatic applications of the skills you’re acquiring. No one said they have to be boring. Mercury’s sextile to Neptune, also on the 24th, helps us keep a direct channel open to the muse of inspiration.
Mercury enters shadowland
Mercury forms a sextile to Jupiter and enters its retrograde shadow on April 26th, days before it decamps to Gemini. The first of three trines to Pluto occurs on April 28th. The edges of the shadow terrain are teeming with intelligence yet to be unearthed. Though Mercury must first gain more legitimate press credentials in Gemini before it goes back for the whole scoop, we begin to get a sense that there’s more to the story.
Later, Mercury backpedals into Taurus again on May 22nd, where it pulls Mars aside for a chat about the game plan on the 23rd. The messenger has returned to the site of an original injustice to do some investigative reporting, and the strategy needs to be on point.
Mercury will spend the end of May and beginning of June stationing direct conjunct the fixed star Algol (exact on June 3rd). This burrowing features deep grooves. A deeper bedrock of primordial rage is perhaps yet to be tapped. We’re coming back for something that was taken from us when we swept a grave violation under the rug. Observe the way Nature herself metes out justice.

When we talk about time management, we usually talk about words like “bandwidth” and “resources.” This year’s Mercury in Taurus transit comes with a much more thorough accounting than usual of your inventory, budget, and treasure chests yet to be unlocked.
Your bargaining power remains strong throughout most of these negotiations. Naming your best qualities and talents, even exalting them as songs or poems, has a way of making you feel expensive. Your time is expensive, too. Coming up hard against your limits is fuel for reinventing the way you think about your own value.
Mercury’s follow-up visit to Taurus in May and June comes with a more deliberate unpacking of your boxes. Pay-related conversations with higher-ups reach new bedrock. Doing yourself justice with your own website and marketing copy requires you to dig deeper into the garden plot of self-appreciation.
Don’t be alarmed if you dislodge some fury in the process. Getting angry on your own behalf is a signal of healing from the conditioning that allowed you to be comfortable with less.

A reverie through the botanical gardens of your memories invites you into the editing process of your autobiographical notes. A fond review of the keepsakes in your storage closet brings you face to face with new questions about yourself.
If it feels appropriate to try to answer them now, it’s because you’re writing the chapter of your story where previous plot inconsistencies are resolved through the narrative power of hindsight.
If you have to take some artistic liberties with the material, so be it. Better to keep it wired and inspired than write a dull work of metafiction. The loving creation of a hypersigil launches you into new paradigms of your own making.
Expect a thorough revision process later. Or: once more, but with feeling. A deeper review of what it all means is called for.
By the time Mercury pivots direct on June 3rd, you will have touched the molten core of the wilderness that lives inside you. Wilderness is whatever doesn’t come across as legible or palatable to others. A drop of your raw truth makes the whole manuscript sing with the full force of its impact.

Gemini & Gemini Rising
You haven’t disappeared — you’re just tinkering around inside the black box inner workings of your mind. Since you’re there anyway, you might as well slow down and take a leisurely stroll through the liminal space beyond your waking awareness.
A meditation retreat wouldn’t be the worst idea you could have during a time like this. Barring that, finding time for stillness and contemplation is perfectly enough. A past life regression or a memory retrieval can be as literal or as metaphorical as you want to make it. No matter what this amounts to, the biggest surprise of all might be that inner peace is the opposite of boring.
If April leads you down the electric rabbit hole, the follow-up visit in May and June invites you deeper into the nooks and crannies. The excavation of shame, resentment, and the layers of assumed indebtedness that keep you stuck in codependent, transactional, or obligatory dynamics — that’s a process, not a weekend workshop.
No matter how well you think you hid it from yourself, a vital plume of incandescent rage propels you out of your slumber around Mercury’s direct station on June 3rd. Invite your inner demons to tea if you must. Then ask: who actually benefits from their demonization?

Belonging is simple in the way that belonging to the earth is simple. But the questions we often have to ask to get there rarely are.
The biggest self-deception is that we can somehow validate ourselves into feeling loved, connected, confident, and whole. It’s not so much that you have to crowdsource your self-approval. It’s more that this sort of thing isn’t meant to happen in a vacuum.
Your group chats, discussion forums, and internet lounge rooms become the arena for a great deal of electric discourse in April. Keep those notes handy, because when Mercury makes its follow-up visit in May and June, you might take great pleasure in the process of scrutinizing them more closely.
If you’re invited down the garden path of deepening your communion with the collective, don’t be alarmed by roses bearing thorns. We are connected to each other by simple joys as much as we’re connected to each other by sorrows and grave injustices. A wail of solidarity arises as it all finally clicks into place around June 3rd.

Leo & Leo Rising
To sing for yourself implies the presence of a shower. To sing on stage implies the presence of an audience. What melodious, honey-tipped words will you serve up as an offering now that you’ve captured everyone’s attention?
To be clear, this isn’t an impromptu performance. This is you giving voice to the ongoing revolution of your life’s work. This is you encoding your professional reinvention — or your acceleration into uncharted territory — into language that can live in the places where the most eyes will see it. Think: website copy, speeches, interviews, announcements.
You’re on a ride, and you intend to take your onlookers with you. During Mercury’s first stint in Taurus in April, your inspired word captures the imagination of the collective. Brilliance shines that much more brightly when it’s shared.
Later, in May and June, retrograde Mercury returns to issue a correction to what was already published, or to dig deeper to the core of what you’re actually performing as a service.
If you feel called to go public with a story of grave injustice, Mercury’s direct station around June 3rd helps you hit the right note of vivid, animal fury. Your willingness to go there might just give someone else the courage to do the same.

Ivory tower, or ivy-walled path through the secret magic garden of learning? You might be re-enchanting your academic foundations, or perhaps just reinvigorating your theories with fruitful new intelligence. Whoever said knowledge is handed down through institutional mechanics has probably never eaten directly from the tree.
Your intellectual pursuits, studies, and cross-cultural connections have been the site of a great political and spiritual awakening lately. With Mercury entering the fray, you might sit down at your desk to give form to your thesis, only to discover that it emerges as a song.
April is for letting the melody flow through you. You won’t know where the improvisational jam band in your mind takes you until you let it shred. The inspired journey curves in anticipation of what it couldn’t have previously known about. Drop seeds along the way into the soil, if only to give them opportunities to flourish later.
Later, when Mercury tracks back over its footsteps in May and June, there will be more creative potential to investigate. In this case, though, creation might not look that different from destruction. Meeting an existential question halfway sometimes looks like scrapping what you thought you knew.

Libra & Libra Rising
Decisions become both simplified and complicated when they’re shared choices. Either they take you out of the echo chamber of your own subjective analysis hole, or they become even more loaded with the weight of someone else’s needs and expectations.
For now, rejoice in the simple relief that not everything is totally up to you to figure out. Delegating some of that mental load frees you to form surprising new mental associations. The intimacy of being in it together, of being implicated in each other’s calculations, opens inroads to untapped sources of abundance.
April’s episode of Mercury in Taurus might find you wrapping up loose ends from tax season or logging brilliant insights regarding ways to feel more radically supported. Money talk isn’t usually fun, but if that’s what’s on the agenda, slip into something a little more comfortable, put on some music, and pour something decadent into your cup.
Your stress brain might become more of a genius brain when you signal to your body that you’re at ease.
Later, in May and June, you’ll be back digging for more receipts. Inheritances come in many forms, with varying degrees of visible roots. Getting to the bottom of things frequently involves unearthing some sort of trauma. Whether it belongs to you or an ancestor, it’s never yours to hold alone.

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
If you’re in the mood to fall in love with life again, start by treating each conversation like a stroll through a perfumed rose garden. The act of simple connection is a totally normal, unremarkable part of the fabric of our mundane lives. And then again, it’s a miracle of nature that we get to relate to each other at all.
Savor the taste, smell, and texture of every interaction. You’re not engaging with 10% of your mind, but with the sheer presence of all of your senses. It’s a subtle shift with big implications. A more fully embodied form of conversation can revolutionize your relationships, in both the quiet and the loud ways.
In some ways, this could be about “having the talk,” but you’re only putting into words a sense of possibility you’ve been experiencing in your partnerships for some time now. During the April portion of this journey, focus on the heart-opening potential of these dialogues.
You’ll circle back on some of what was discussed in May and June. Don’t be shy about interrogating the true substance of your exchanges. Even if it touches a nerve, even if you dislodge something ferocious that falls beyond the scope of what an etiquette book can teach you to handle.

Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
Regular maintenance and upkeep doesn’t usually feel like a walk in the park, but here’s the thing — it could. Whether you’re negotiating the shared duties of a partnership, logging extra office hours, tinkering with health tracking apps, or calling in greater satisfaction around your own wellbeing, consider what would help you whistle while you work.
Infusing more pleasure into a necessary process will fast-track you to a lightbulb moment. What if drudgery is a deviation from our own natural providence? What if the things that are necessary for our survival are supposed to feel good for a reason?
Take your time feeling your way through these concepts in April. Stop to smell the rose-scented soap. Linger around the table with your coworkers. Have a body worker name your knots as they finesse them away. The pace of your own enlightenment quickens with these physical acts.
Some of what you’re talking and thinking about will be up for greater scrutiny and review in May and June, when Mercury doubles back to Taurus. Interrogating high costs in the wellness industry, or discussing pay with your coworkers, could spark a renewed and vital fury against the machinations of capitalism.
Use it as a bright headlamp as you chart your way forward.

Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
Right now, life isn’t so much what happens when you’re making other plans, but what you appreciate with your senses. You’re basically getting a masterclass in what it means to savor the peach yourself, rather than reading a PhD thesis about a poem some guy wrote about peaches once.
Once you immerse yourself fully in the experience, your enlightenment comes quickly and almost all at once. This might all make great fodder for your theories about art and sexual politics later, but for now, ride the wave of creative acceleration and erotic experimentation. You’re imbibing your way to an exciting discovery about the nature of what brings you to life.
April’s chapter of Mercury in Taurus drops insights into your purse like little candies for later. In May and June, you unwrap them like you might be unwrapping yourself.
Discovering something new about your sexuality, reeling from the shockwaves of a creative breakthrough, and realizing you don’t have to enjoy yourself the way you used to can lead to big questions about your identity.
Accessing buried layers of rage around the violation of your most generative impulses is also an important part of this soul retrieval. If it comes up, harness this as momentum to carry you forward.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
Before you figure out what you want to create, you might have to get reacquainted with the lineage that created you. Much of the static that strives to move through you has ancient, ancient origins. Returning to the fountainhead might look a lot like returning to the gardens of paradise where your origin stories and creation myths took place.
Even old, familiar settings can still stand to surprise you. Even foundations that felt fixed can still accelerate toward a new beginning. Take great pleasure in connecting with your roots, your ancestors, or the literal land where you dwell. You don’t always have to look beyond your own basement for buried treasure.
During the April chapter of Mercury in Taurus, you might be taking a joyride down stretches of memory lane you had never traveled down before. Old things can feel new under this influence, up to and including the way you communicate with your kin.
When the messenger comes back to retrace their steps in May and June, this may amount to more of a memory retrieval. The yield of an archaeological dig is often museum-worthy, but not always comforting to behold. A red-hot vein of ancient fury might be the X that marks the spot. Stay with it until the sigh of relief that follows.

A walk through a park is not merely a walk through a park, but an accounting of all the ways you belong to the world, and it belongs to you. If you’re looking for a way to ground yourself as a big wave of impressions washes over you, look first and foremost to the delights of your immediate environment.
What’s local is inspired. What’s accessible is teeming with compelling insights. When nature is eager to talk to you, you don’t have to travel very far to hear the news. The message will easily find you in your favorite neighborhood haunts, habitually scrolled news feeds, and the people whose texts are always at the top of your message history.
In April, your Mercury in Taurus adventure takes you off the path most routinely traveled to a detour you’re sure to delight in. You never know which literal or metaphorical open mic night will swing the doors wide open for you. Take a chance with your ideas, curiosities, and willingness to learn new skills.
You’ll be back to dig deeper into this particular rabbit hole in May and June. This time, you might need to tap into your wider network of friends and acquaintances to get to the bottom of things. The hive mind of Twitter is a formidable detective. So is the mycelium in the soil. Leave no stone unturned, and you might dislodge a horrible story. Perhaps you’re the one best equipped to write it out of obscurity, and toward a greater sense of justice.
