Weekly Astro Pro Tips:
The Sun sextiles Neptune on Wednesday signifying a moment of creative concocting or delicious daydreaming.
Mercury enters one of its own signs, Gemini, on Thursday. Mercury functions supremely well in this sign. It’s fast, witty, well spoken and insatiably curious. The winged messenger will oppose Saturn on Saturday/Sunday. This aspect is a wonderful one for helping us take back any authority that we have given to another. It can help us be mindfully aware of the ways in which our thoughts become our reality. It can help us steady ourselves and get the job done.
Mercury will enter its pre-retrograde shadow (it will enter the degrees that it will recross once retrograde) on Monday, May 4th, so move forward with what you can this week: sign documents, buy electronics etc. But more importantly become interested, curious and fascinated with what is being communicated to you. Mercury retrogrades are a time to take note of all the messages that we receive. Mercury is also now visible as an evening star.
On Sunday there will be a full moon in Scorpio at 11:42 PM EDT. If Scorpio is anything it is intense, powerful and resilient. The asteroid Lilith is conjunct Sunday’s full moon in Scorpio. If Lilith’s myth speaks to anything it’s the embodiment of the wild, irrepressible and untamable force of nature that we are all born from. Lilith asks if and how we will serve it.
Mars, the ruler of the full moon, will be 2 degrees away from a conjunction to the fixed star Algol at the time of the full moon. Algol was feared and thought of as the most evil star in the heavens by the ancients. As a binary star, Algol flashes in the night sky. Algol is said to represent the severed head of Medusa hence its “evil” association. If one looked at her they would be petrified, turned to stone.
But both Lilith and Medusa are ancient symbols of creative, erotic female power that have been relegated to the domain of destructive demon divas. Their side of the story has rarely been told throughout the ages. Both figures are rejected, betrayed and abused in their myths. Expressing rage about such injustices is deemed socially unacceptable and so they are feared instead of understood.
I’ll be back a little later in the week with a full moon blog post but for now know that it’s about reclaiming the rejected, understanding the power that gets locked up in our anger and honoring the intense creativity that is life.
For a very long time now the sickness of separation has infiltrated many cultures, many minds and far too many systems that most of us must live within. We are placed into boxes, labeled and given a certain perimeter to live within. Any unique way of expressing our life force is usually viewed as a liability. Creativity is squelched is favor of commodity and life is valued only as far as it can be measured against the backdrop of bank statements.
Or so we are told.
This week gives you the interesting opportunity to come up against a stodgy belief system, an overbearing elder that doesn’t have kind in mind when it comes to you or a set of rules and regulations that you are finally ready to flip the bird at. I’m hoping that you decide to tell any teacher that isn’t instructing you through life-affirming lessons to go take a hike. Rebel for a reason.
Ending up in detention may give you a good moment to pause and reflect but you could skip the whole punishment by taking some time to get quiet and reflect upon what would be the most useful way to rebel. Be strategic and simple. Saying no needn’t require a whole song and dance, just clarity and courage.
The intensity of Sunday’s full moon occurs in your Eighth House, a part of your chart that asks you to let go of the old. Given the significations of this full moon I’m inclined to say that this has to do with you accepting that what you fear the most about yourself is actually what you most need to welcome in. If we freeze in the face of our desire we end up living life for acceptance from others, and that is no life at all.
Given the fact that this Sunday’s full moon in Scorpio occurs in your Seventh House of intimate partnerships I’d say that the cosmos is making this topic and its involvements apparent. Full moons tease something to the surface. They highlight, spotlight and put in the limelight the issues that we most need to work on, work with or work through.
This one for you may have to do with feelings of being misunderstood, abandoned, rejected or refused. Conversely this moon could highlight the relationships that you are in with people that feel that way about themselves.
Or both.
This full moon asks that you not assume that others find you too much, too intense or too wild and therefore withdraw in protest or fear of rejection. This full moon asks you if you can recognize and validate the wild, untamable, erotically potent aspects of yourself instead of demanding that other people do.
When you do you’ll attract people who do too.
And then you won’t have to run. And then you won’t have to attract any other runaway brides. Understanding how we set up the circumstances so that we are sure to live out the experiences that are familiar to us (rejection, abandonment, hostility) is an ongoing but completely necessary component of our earthly education. So is understanding how we might tend to make others “bad” or make ourselves “wrong”. How we might make other people into the “other” or how we are made out to be ourselves. How we might fear the complexity of seeing people as they are: good, not so great and everything in between.
This full moon asks you to handle some volatile emotional material, but when you are able to do so without reacting out of fear of it, exponential growth occurs. It’s what true intimacy is about – which is what you seem to be after right now. That and getting a fair deal with whomever you are in partnership with. Don’t allow yourself to be blamed for the things that are rightfully yours to ask for and don’t feel ashamed of the potent creative energy that runs through you. Just put it to good use in your life and your work.
Defining (and therefore redefining) yourself might be something that you are currently being asked to do. It might also be something that is demanded of you. And it might also be something that you find yourself in need of doing.
You are allowed to change.
You are allowed to discover new points of view. You are allowed to soften your gaze when looking at what used to be the cold hard facts of your life and you are allowed to clean up your communications with others. You don’t have to state every intention publicly or pronounce every plan. You have the right to remain silent if you need to. You have the right not to know at the moment. You have the right to wait before you respond.
And so does everyone else.
If some relationships goes radio silent right now it’s OK. Sometimes people, situations and circumstances need a moment. Sometimes everyone needs to go to their respective corners and meditate for a moment.
Remember that this is a full moon week. A full moon in Scorpio week, no less. It’s nothing short of intense and maybe even be intimidating in its ability to get to the heart of our fears so take this as a warning and try not to get yourself all twisted and tormented about another’s actions. Just step back and breath. Just step down and take care of your needs. Start with your physical ones and work out from there. This full moon is in your Sixth House reminding you to take care of your health, invest in healing habits and reward yourself with anything that feels like a sweet gift to your soul’s case.
Sunday’s full moon sets you up to succeed if you are willing to work your edge. Issues that feel volatile in regards to the groups of friends, colleges and comrades that you hang with could be boundaries that you bump up against. Musings from the parts of you that have been rejected, relegated and yet still refuse to be regulated may also be what you dare to dance with as the full moon blooms.
The more willing you are to be on your own side the more creative genius this full moon will grant you. Being on your own side doesn’t have to be divisive or defensive. In fact it helps us to maintain deeper more honest relationships. The key is holding ourselves accountable for what we have set others up for. Pitfalls and pedestals are just the flip side of each other.
What roles have you given your friends, your community and your peers? What expectations do you place on them? Are you able to withdraw your need to have them make up for your mother’s mistakes, your parent’s problems or your father’s fractured heart? If so, most of the issues that you have with anyone on your team, in your work or in your social circle will most likely dissipate at alarming rates.
Freeing up our misconceptions about how others should act towards us frees up our misconceptions about ourselves. When you get back the energy that you poured into resenting, fearing, refusing and begrudging others you get back your ability to see the best in yourself, in your work and in your life.
This Sunday’s full moon is asking you to remember where you come from. Remember your roots, your complex past and your family’s many lives. Remember the kind of regenerative healing that can happen when we have a space to call our own. Remember the kind of resiliency that you had to have in order to make it through your family’s landscape or the resiliency that your family had to have (or didn’t have) to make it through theirs.
There is a healing that can happen when we retell our stories. There is a reclaiming that can happen when we recontextualize the stories that were told about us. Especially the hardest parts of it.
Just because we were hard to handle, rebellious, shy or marched to the beat of our own drum doesn’t mean we weren’t worthy of praise. Any part of yourself that was a misfit, an outcast or heretic as a child deserves to have a storybook written about them.
I’m serious. Write one.
Any part of your current incarnation that bucks the system does too. That is, as long as you don’t let yourself off the hook. It’s important to reclaim our stories while holding ourselves accountable for the hellions that we can sometimes be.
It’s good to come clean about it all because this week also brings you an opportunity to get clear on which dreams, visions and hopes you’re able to get to work on. You need your whole self on the job, the entire motley crew. Don’t worry about temporary clashes with authority – let them strengthen your resolve.
Stating your intentions clearly, concisely and calmly will help your work situation immensely. There may be minor to major mixups here come the next month and a half so being conscientious in your communications right now is a proactive way to cover your tuchas. It’s also a great way to co-create a career that encapsulates your greatest gifts.
No one knows what you want or what you are capable of until you tell them. So speak up so that we might come to know your specialty. Speak up so that we might know your sweet soul. Speak up so that we might know your saucy smarts.
Sunday’s full moon occurs in your Third House of communication. It’s a full moon in Scorpio, conjunct the asteroid Lilith. Lilith speaks the unspeakable, she utters god’s secret name in the garden of Eden right before she exiles herself (Adam thought he was her superior so she bounced).
If any combination impels us to speak up it’s this one-but it’s reinforced by other aspects of this week’s astrology which make the consequences of your conversations as real as Rihanna’s world domination. So take your contributions seriously and we will too.
There’s a useful tension that is building in your chart between respecting your elders and the authority figures that have earned it and becoming your own source of wisdom. Ultimately you (and me both) need an equal helping of each: both the self respect to value what you know and the humility to know that there is still quite a bit that you have yet to discover.
The trick is learning how to stand in both places and value the opportunity to engage with your teachers as someone who has something to say. Bearing in mind that teachers take all shapes and sizes, this astrology begs the question how do you measure up? Or maybe the better question would be how do you measure yourself?
Are your scales measuring an equal counter weight to you and whomever else you might be in a standoff with? When you enter into the world do you value your place as much as you value the places that others occupy? Gently remind yourself that your experience is only to be compared to your experience and that the knowledge that you have acquired is just as worthy of your appreciation as anyone else’s. As Sunday’s full moon blooms in your Second House of financial affairs and inner resources it’s important to remember the value of your contributions so that the full moon can highlight them properly.
Full moon’s in our own sign fill our cup. Sunday’s runneth over for you. Fiercely too.
Those born under the influence of your sign have a stunning reservoir of energy accessible to them. Scorpions don’t run about hither and tither, banner waving or shouting from roof tops (not without a solid strategy in mind at the very least). No, yours is a sign of profound power and if you are lucky you know that it means spending a lifetime figuring out how to use it for the benefit of all involved. Sunday’s full moon highlights this part of your composition.
Some questions that come to the fore are: In what area of your life are you currently shining your light? How do you wield your power? How do you deal with profoundly complex emotions especially as it pertains to feelings of rejection, betrayal and feeling like you don’t quite fit in?
One of your greatest gifts is that you are able to penetrate below the surface of what is artificial and get to the full, potent power of the truth. While others might be appear as full-time opponents (and may very well be so) I encourage you to highlight your capacity to get to the heart of the matter when it comes to disputes with others rather than getting embroiled in any petty plays. You’re powers are wasted on such trivialities. Seek to embody the essence of truth rather than seeking to destroy.
Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
Reorganize your relationship to authority. Notice what figments of your imagination hold power over you. Notice what real life characters seem to hold the ultimate command in your life even when they are nowhere near you. Notice the inner authority figures that you have internalized, ones from childhood, ones from TV, ones from your neighborhood, family and from friends.
Take note so you can take control.
You might need to fire a main character. You might need to give a love interest a time out. You might need to swap out the bossy best friend for a saucy sidekick. You might just want to take control of the entire recasting of your show.
There are two very interesting astrological influences that you are contending with this week. First, Mercury opposes Saturn, manifest in a way where you can see it (Saturn in your first house of self, Mercury in your seventh house of other). It happens right out in front of you, in your intimate relationships, in your face, in your conscious experience. It’s about authority and control. It’s about thinking and communicating the things that will clarify and create an awareness about your own authority, not giving it away and trusting yourself.
The other astrological event, the full moon in Scorpio, happens behind closed doors (in your twelfth house of hidden things), happens in ways that you aren’t fully aware of, happens in ways that you might not even see yet. This is an event that will illuminate what ways you might be giving your power away. Feeding your fears. Entertaining entities that really need to be released rather than recycled.
All that to say, trust yourself to make the right decisions for your life because you are the only one that is privy to your inner knowing. Others may act like they have your answers for you but they don’t have to deal with the outcome of bad advice, only you do. Being connected to your inner truth is the only source of authority that you need the approval of.
Work might get slowed down this week by unforeseen forces. Life might lay down on the sidewalk like a stubborn child and exclaim that it simply cannot march forward another step. You might be happy enough to join it. Naps are the key to any great conquest so don’t worry if there is a momentary curb in your enthusiasm or a desire to snuggle up and snooze.
But don’t be fooled by a temporary lull either. It’s actually time to get a few things straight. A time to take conscious control of how your day to day could be done better and better. Utilize this time to prioritize what needs your attention the most and what needs your controlling the least.
And don’t miss the party.
There is plenty of action awaiting you come this weekend’s full moon. It’s occurring in your Eleventh House of good fortune and great gatherings. It comes with some sneakily strong energies. It comes singing some sweetly subversive songs. It comes without apology and within its domain anything deep is possible.
Don’t let the intensity of the moment sweep you away entirely though (we are talking a Scorpio full moon here). Be conscious of your need to release some big emotions and your need to satiate some bigger appetites for justice-just make sure that they are well placed and directed in ways that don’t overwhelm the wrong recipients.
Sunday’s full moon sheds light on the transformative power of your career. It is asking you to wake up to the magnitude of influence that you have over this area of your life.
Not because you are special. Or different. Or unique. You are, but this is not about that.
This is about becoming conscious of the power that you have and how you use it in the world. This is about becoming conscious of the power of the outsider. When you don’t have to play by all the rules you get to make up your own.
Consciousness breeds choice and choice breeds agency. When you know you have some you start to become unstoppable in the face of situations that used to halt you in your tracks. When you no longer need to belong to the group you are free to do as you please.
But you are also out their on your own.
Your recent astrology may have resulted in a break or disruption at home, with a family member or your actual living situation. There is the potential here for you to feel ungrounded, destabilized or on the defense where you’d rather feel welcomed, understood and at ease. This can make it less enjoyable to take risks out in the world. Can.
But it can also remind you that there is a possibility of learning how to move in and out of family situations, of environments that we sometimes must be part of, of knowing that the security given to us through a family dynamic is not a static state but requires many small and large adjustments.
When we are little we haven’t the wherewithal to separate the feelings from the facts, or the facts from the feelings. We haven’t the ability to understand the emotional signature that we are developing as we wander through our formative years, some of us surviving just barely and others just blindly.
Not until we reach our later lives can we start to parse out the inappropriate and internalized voices that denounce our very existence. This week may bring some of those thoughts and beliefs into very real form for you to witness and (hopefully) dismiss. This week may bring you the proof of the power that your thoughts carry. This week may bring you the strength you need to disbelieve the things you held true for so long.
This Sunday’s full moon shines the light on your Ninth House of dreams, divination, astral-travel, physical travel, the way you see the world and your place in it. Use your gifts of perception, insight and intuition to remind you that so much of what you are gifted with is your relationship to the unseen. Use your gifts to remind you that you’re navigated through this earthly realm by forces that are rarely seen in earthly form.
