|Bird Mother, Ancient Mother. Perhaps it’s Lilith, perhaps not- but it’s pretty close none the less.|
This months full moon is in Aquarius is occurring at 11:15 am on July 22nd. This is technically called Lunar Lammas as it’s the first full moon before the pagan holiday Lammas, a celebration of creation and fruition. The astrology that surrounds this full moon is entirely opulent and full of peak energy, just as Lammas would have it. We just experienced the height of the Grand Water Trine this weekend, which has most likely felt like a flooding of the senses with every emotion possible rising to the surface. A grand trine consist of at least three planets lining up, all 120 degrees away from each other-in this case we have Saturn in Scorpio, Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter, Mars and Black Moon Lilith in Cancer.
Because so many planets have clustered together in Cancer during the Grand Trine issues around, security, parenting, emotional and physical needs, food, rest, safety and security have most likely been a high priority. With the Sun’s shift into Leo and the full moon in Aquarius we get a little perspective and distance from all of this heightened sensitivity that we’ve been experiencing. Though I don’t want to negate the fact that in this astrological weather some people may tend to numb themselves as a form of protection, not everyone is comfortable in such a stew. You may have felt much more anxiety, worry or angst than sadness, grief or joy. We all deal with our emotional body in our unique ways.
A full moon in Aquarius is focused on the group that we are a part of and it just so happens that we will have two full moons in Aquarius in a row. This usually doesn’t happen but when it does we can be sure that the emphasis of this sign will be felt. The moon isn’t entirely sensitive or what we may think of as nurturing in Aquarius-as the sign itself is a little on the cooler side. However, given the astrological climate of the past few weeks this may not be such a bad thing. This full moon could give us the distance needed to integrate all of the emotional experiences that we have had this summer. Some of these experiences may have something to do with our responsibility to the group, our responsibility to our self, and how we feel a part of or a part from the whole. Is there a collective movement that we are drawn to? Is there a movement that we feel alienated from that we wish we were closer to? Do we cringe at the mere thought of being merged with a collective of people? There are no right or wrong answers, just a deeper awareness of who we are and what we need.
If you are interested in learning more about Lammas, Laura Amazzone and I are hosting a private celebration in Venice Beach, CA on August 4th.
Here’s a little note on the day:
Come celebrate the fruits of our intentions and the harvest of our desires that were set into motion last winter and nurtured at each of the 8 sacred points on the wheel of the year. At this cross-quarter holy-day of Lammas, the Celebration of the Harvest abundance surrounds us, it is time to rejoice. Anywhere there seems to be lack, we take notice and reflect on why this part of our self or our life is infertile. As we prepare to move into the darkening time of the year, we pause to acknowledge and honor what we have created and manifested. We will focus on what has grown and borne fruit in our lives and in our selves. To sync with the energies of Lammas, Laura will explore the mysteries of Demeter and Persephone/Kore. The Earth Mother/Grain Goddess and Her divine daughter, who must spend half the year in the underworld, have much to teach us about our own soul’s journey. Chani will explore how the themes of underworld and harvest energies relate to the current astrology and the placement of the asteroids Ceres and Persephone in our chart
